If it's upstairs, and judging by the off-centre position, it'll have another chimney coming up below it, passing around it to the right and joining somewhere up above before exiting the roof, so in theory you should hit the top of the other chimney's brickwork very soon. What condition that is in...who knows
I'm currently unblocking an upstairs bedroom fireplace and the hearth is very crumbly. I will be repairing this, hopefully today, but how far down dare I go removing the loose stuff? Just want to share the blame should the house fall down.
