Can’t decide if it will be 29 or 27.5. Can’t decide if it will have Paul, hope or shimano brakes. Can’t decide if it should have a hope, shimano xt or alfine crank. Pretty sure I’ll get surly rear hub with either matching front or son. It will have mudguards, once again not sure if silver or black. I’m thinking of a mixed silver black build all over.

Not sure I really understand a fixed mtb… but I’d say 29 would make it a more useable option as it’ll eat the bumps in the trail better.
Nice frame mind

It won’t be used for mtb. Think city build.
-
• #5
Oh, well in that case eat potholes better and less pedal strikes

Not sure Alfine chainset will work with mtb bb shell
-
• #7
Do you think the shell is 73mm or 83mm? Why so?

Saw that frame listed, looked amazing. I thought it was a 26/27.5 frame? Might be underwhelming clearance at 29?

It is but I got him to do a picture with 700c. I’m hoping if the dropouts are quite far out I can be looking at 2” maybe 2.1”. It will be getting 700c to start off with as I have them. I did order some 27.5 rims from ribble for 8.99 though. https://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/st-i23-tcs-2-0-27-5-rim-32-hole/

I would go for 29" with 47c tyres if it fits, perfect for a city cruiser

Here is a picture I found with 2.1” 27.5 slammed in the dropouts. Should have plenty of room for 48mm. Rene herse are always nice.

Fixed with huge tyres is, in my opinion, a bit shit anyway. Too grippy to skid, more weight = more momentum so harder to resist. Sub 2" is probably for the best.

Middleburn don't make the list?
I'm looking at/thinking about Hope but 30mm axle is putting me off. Alfine cranks seem like the outlier in your list, they're pretty low end. I guess the Alfines will be available new but if you were ok with used parts then there's nicer HT2 cranksets, Ultegra or Dura Ace show up used for around the price of the Alfine new.

I’ve only ever gone up to 47 byways in the past. My commute is interesting. It 4 miles of mostly climbing and then rolling. My issue is I’m either under geared or over geared. I can ride it but I’m lazy. My thought is big tyres will increase rolling resistance and bring upright will help on the flat.

I'm pretty clueless actually. Thought alfine were 68mm only
-

Seller thinks this is 68mm, I’ll see tomorrow.

That's just fixed/ss bikes innit?!

I think it’s just the 10kg I’ve put on in the last few years. I still have power but I’m a fat cunt that refuses to use gears in Cornwall.

I've owned a pretty good number of steel mtb frames and about 95% have been 68mm shell

I like how this looks, go for 29. Fixed mtb touches my bizarre curiosity bone, but with slick 47 it's a fixed gravel, and that's really fun IMO. Flip flop hub maybe?
Re the £10 rims, fucking hell I Just spent 100 on a pair of basically the same rims. Where were you a week ago.

I’m hopefully going to have this running tomorrow to see how the fit is. It will start as a spare parts build to see how the frame works. As I flog stuff I’ll order some parts. Thinking I’m going with a Paul brake setup as I can’t be arsed to bleed hydraulic brakes, I want this simple.

Turned up! Built it last night. For the alfine cranks to clear theyneeded a tiny spacer on both sides of the bottom bracket. I’ve got gravelkings (35mm) 700c tyres on but tried some 2.25” schwalbe mtb tyres and they fit, just. 48mm slick/semi slick tyres with mudguards should be good.

Pics pics!

I’ll take some pics later but I don’t have mineral oil so the brake hose is taped to the fork at the moment.

Here we go. Will be going down to 50mm ish as these 2.3 don’t leave any room for guards.

This Lee Cooper frame is turning up at mine tomorrow. It is the driving reason to sell a bunch of stuff I have laying around. Firstly to free up some cash for a nice bling build and most importantly to stop my wife scowling at me from across the sofa. It’s a frame only with a silver hope headset/seatpost collar.
