  • One observation from the ride was that there’s no way I’d want to run less than 70GI. Descending at 38mph had me spinning like mad, would have been a nightmare with 64. Gonna ride in and see how I manage.

  • Survived the commute fixed with the original 49x19 gearing. Took a more direct route after I spotted a club mate on Strava rides the same way. Much better than via Bradford, shorter and hillier.

    Deffo need guards. As much as I’d hoped to hold off til winter, my arse got soaked.

    Just need to see what the return leg is like. I imagine it won’t be as quiet at 4pm.

  • Generally just a much nicer commute.
    So much better when it’s actual continuous cycling rather than constant traffic light to traffic light. And the hills are entertaining - hopefully I’ll improve on them!

    Slight concerns about how they’d fit due to the numbers in their fitting guide. Think they’re all ok except A and C are about 8mm on the brother.

  • I had a pair of the road ones on a fixed frame. IIRC, the hardware on the bridge / fork mounts would be difficult to modify to give you enough movement. I think then you would hit clearance issues with the mount hitting the bottom cup of your headset. I would err on the side of flexibility here. VO/Honjo are good options. SKS are just fine too. Don't forget customised Raw mud flaps too.

  • Ah, looking at the fork I think you’re totally right about that.
    Back to the drawing board.

  • You may want to consider a daruma bolt mounting option up front if you are worried about the fork fitting.

  • You can just chop the top off the mount without issue if needs be

  • Just remembered I actually had this problem on the last build, just spaced the clip away from the fork to make some clearance.

  • I've really struggled with getting much over 30c into my Allday with mudguards. Intrigued to see how you fare and after many nights battling with different guards and different tyre combos, praying for you. 🙏

  • What's the reason for using the rack bosses instead of the fender ones at the dropout?
    Just to keep it out of the way?

  • Yep - exactly. The position of the track nut vs the fender mount meant the stay bolt would reduce the amount of turn you can get on a wrench. Anything to make a mid winter puncture a tad easier :)

  • Lol. Well, I’m fairly capable at the art of bodging, and the fit on my last bike was tight.

    Gonna have to make them fit one way or another. I really like having the 35s so it’ll have to work!

  • No good ones apparently... I've always struggled with photos of this bike for some reason. Anyhow, it's been a workhorse - does summer gravel happily (I live near the New Forest), has done roadie club rides, some decent audax distances and many a trip to the shops. They're good frames with a few niggly flaws - I've done about 6,000 miles on mine so the niggles can't be that bad. Hope Nef enjoys his!

  • What are the niggles in your opinion?

  • A bit lumpy dumpy and tyre clearance is a bit tough esp. around the fork crown and brake bridge. Like I said though, I'm watching with baited breath to see if you crack that one :) I do really like mine.

  • It’s funny, coming from an ancient track path frame it feels really sharp to me. Steeper than my road bike as well. Hadn’t anticipated the guard issues really, as I thought clearances were super tight on my old bike so I assumed there’d be miles of space on this! Time will tell.

  • I will admit to smirking a bit at 'build right build once' but it's all gone very well so far and I want these mudguards to succeed.

  • Haha, well the buy right thing was mostly an addition when the budget ran away after I started buying things like Paul callipers, Phil hubs and a Chris King BB

  • I think PDWs will fit, I have some 45s fitted on my pacer which surely has less room than the brother frame in the fork crown and seatstay area? Also get a sheldon fender nut for the fork crown or a daruma like others have mentioned.

  • Yeah sorry I could have been more useful. My best success was 32c Jack Brown something's under 45mm longboards. I think their square-ish shape helped. A tad tight for winter riding for my liking though. The hammered Velo Orange's roundness gave problems esp at the fork crown even with daruma nut I'd loctighted and filed down, so only got up to 30c.

    So, PDWs being a bit square is deffo the right direction. Brother seem to have specced the fork and brake bridge for long drop calliper brakes which is the limiting factor.
