I had a TV above the fireplace in my old place and never noticed any issues, also ideal for setting surround sound up with it being in the centre of the wall. Admittedly I also had reclining sofas so that probably helped.
Then I got a girlfriend and all those things gradually went ...
Possibly (I have no idea if it is tweaked for home release) but it is still much better than attempting a surround sound setup when the tv is in the corner of the room and you're sitting offset to it.
