  • how common is ad blue in modern diesel engines. and it it just to get the motors to pass the recent emissions laws ?

  • I’ve never driven a car with adblue, but driven plenty vans that use it. It’s basically a solvent (urea maybe?) that helps break down the exhaust gasses to help reduce emissions.

  • For optimum fuel consumption you neeed a high combustion temperature but that creates Nitrous Oxides, older diesels used EGR Exhaust Gas Recirculation to reduce combustion temperature but that causes soot, hence the needs for DPF Diesel Particulate Filters but they don't sit well with short Journey's.
    Ad Blue is a urea mixture injected direct into the exhaust prior to a catalytic converter that reacts to break down the nitrous oxides to harmless gases, so higher combustion temperatures can be maintained.

  • PSA also did something to reduce NOx, (so Citroen pug, Volvo and ford that use a diesel PSA powerplant) that was a fluid called eloys. There are three different kinds of fluid and there aren't mixable.

    Seriously though, drink driving is endemic in the countryside. It's best, if you have to drive between 1 and 3pm to assume that everyone on the road is pissed. The older the driver the drunker he will be. It's hard to tell in a country with such poor driving standards anyway.

    The guy we bought our house from only sold it because his kids took his car keys away, at the age of 90. He had been merrily driving from mate's house, to bar, to cafe every day drinking wine at each place and coming home ratarsed.

  • Yeah, everyone drinks and drives in the countryside. I've never seen a gendarme breathalyse anyone.

    Got to say that in general, I still find drivers better in France. Might just be that there's a much lower density in the sticks.

  • In a country where you can drive a sort of car with out a driving licence... including having your driving licence removed for drink driving.

  • I've just been back to ECP and exchanged the wrong plug for the correct one. Replaced it in the car and the one I removed was broken. So the car now seems to idling much better - not had a chance to drive it yet.
    I'm still seeing the same error codes on the scanner though. Probably a massively n00b question, but if I delete the codes, if the error is still present will the code appear again when I rescan?

  • Depends what exactly caused the error.
    For example my wife’s jazz occasionally throws an o2 sensor fault and it goes away after being cleared as the fault condition doesn’t repeat.

  • Depending on service history and when you purchased the car and mileage there's a possibility of a goodwill repair if it turns out to be a major issue... Maybe. In aus the pugs and citroens with the puretec 1.2 triple had many technical service bulletins that covered your issues. New timing belt kits and sometimes new engines. I believe in the UK they had a similar recall to fix the faulty parts before they became an issue. Worth checking if your VIN is in that range.

  • The basket work on the seats was pretty impressive - you can also just about make out a big bluetooth speaker down at the driver's footwell, no fancy custom audio installs here!

    @Nef I'd be pretty happy with a 1.4 I reckon. We don't drive enough to warrant higher insurance for the 1.5

    @Overuser155208 We already have a clio, but want something similar in size but a bit more practical in terms of what you can do with it. The clio is also wheezy as fuck at this point. Newer Panda is what I like, but it's only slightly better than the clio.
    I'm waiting for the owner to rear their head then I'll make an offer on the MK2
