  • Inflating to max pressure makes a lot of sense before this kind of transports.
I only wobbled my overloaded cargo on two bars once, and that was enough.

  • Absolutely. It was an amateur mistake really, not one I'll be making again

  • Great minds

  • The way I managed was to dismount (as in not have my butt on the saddle) with heavy loads, and level the pedals ready for when you start again (and put it in the easiest gear for starting). If you optimise the actual riding position it’s unlikely you’ll be able to touch the floor comfortably. Same as any other bike.

With both feet firmly on the floor at a stop you’re in a much more powerful position and less likely to tip the bike.

Or try and get a dropper. Although I can already see you coming to a quick or unexpected stop, trying to drop the saddle (or completely forgetting to) then trying to balance on the floor for stability but not quite able to cos used to dropper working then tipping the bike.

Good to get used to the dismount technique I think. It’s how all the pedal me cargo bike riders are taught.

  • Hmm, three years in, seems I need to work on my technique. Cheers

  • Yeah, I was contemplating getting a dropper for mine as the saddle height is not quite high enough for me, but also I can only get a tiptoe down on the floor even with the saddle not being quite high enough. Had a couple of low speed ‘oh shit’ moments recently where I wasn’t expecting to lose balance but whoops, and the fact that I could get a foot to the floor without having to jam a lever to drop the seat was crucial in me (and my kids) not doing a slow ass sideways tumble to the hard unforgiving ground. Plan to get a dropper is now firmly on the back burner.

  • I'd cut neither. Can't you get a hub based motor?

  • My understanding is that is because of the direction that power is a applied will push it forward until it hits something

  • I could but I love the instant torque from standstill that you get with a torque sensor- especially good on a cargo bike imho. Hub kits with a torque sensing BB don’t seem that readily available but open to suggestions!

  • 25 psi 🤦🏻
    What a chump

  • But then those daily bikes often run really low, not like the ones where I spend time looking for whatever important sporty accessory is missing and check if stuff is ok.

  • Any thoughts on the Nexus 5E hub for a Veloe Multi long tail? The other options are the Eviolo TR/HD (I never liked the twist grip on my last Enviolo hub, which made my wrist hurt shifting through the range) or Deore 10 speed (more maintenance, etc).

The Nexus looks decent, but doesn’t have a massive range (268%), and I live in Edinburgh with 2 kids to haul up cobbled hills. But maybe coupled with an EP8 the absolute range matters less?

  • I have it on my e6100 Bullitt. It's ok - I'm in the south downs and there's definitely some hills it won't get up - around 10% gets a bit spicy and you have to put a lot of leg power in. I geared it down to 38/27, I think you can feasibly go down to 38/30 but of course you then lose a bit of top end. Might not be an issue with the EP8 though.

Doesn't like changing under any power at all which takes a bit of adjusting to.

  • hello guys, just letting you know i am selling a
    Bafang Mid-Motor 750W 48V Kit BBS02B
mid drive bafang, almost new, just the motor, i used it for my omnium for a month maybe, if anybody is interested let me now by pm, its a super nice motor, silent and the power!!! its so good
    ok thx
(havent made a FS in here or anywhere else.... procrastinating too much, something like 400e plus shipping, am i waaay off? thx)

  • That's really useful as I'm also in the South Downs (btw have I seen your bike in Glynde/around Lewes?) and was thinking about a Nexus 5E on an Omnium with an EP8 motor to carry my kids further than I currently do on my unassisted Omnium. Do you think it's the motor lacking power or just cadence not being high enough?

  • Not me I'm afraid. Little from column a, little from column b I guess? Anything below 7/8mph is a struggle, it's happier from 10mph.

With the Nexus I believe it's the lowest gear that is direct drive and then 2-5 are overdriven, so 38/27 really isn't a very low bottom gear. I'd like to get a Rohloff eventually but I don't think they play with the Steps system.

  • Couldn't compete with established quality European brands?

  • Ran by a friend of mine.. has been sold out for about 3 or 4 years.

He's spoken about doing a V2 run, but not sure if it's financially that viable any more..

  • glad I didn't buy a rad wagon when I was deliberating bike choices a few months ago then!

  • You can just use a regular Rohloff, doesn’t have to be e14

  • Would love to see it. Not everyone can afford a £4000 e-cargo. There's very little middle ground in the UK market.

Needs some frame tweaks. Longer wheelbase, more fork rake for stability. Here's mine. Beautiful in its own way.
