I'm in the market for a tablet (of the old, discontinued, NOS or refurbed variety), but can't decide between the Tab A (because tester recommended) or the Tab S2 (which I have had success with in the past, although it doesn't like things dropped on it, apparently).
Does your wisdom extend to recommending one over the other?

Not sure about wisdom, but the A7 10.4"runs Android 12 (13 on the smaller Lite model) while the S2 is much older and stops at Android 6 or 7 depending on the variant. Depending on the use case, that could be a bit of a hostage to fortune as app compatibility with such and old OS version is likely to drop off.
As a portable web browser/media player, the lighter weight, higher resolution, OLED display and MHL connectivity all weigh in favour of the S2 if the price is similar

I can confirm Lenovo tabs are shit

I know you have not really asked, but, I have the Tab S3 SM-T825 and it is excellent. CeX are doing them from under £100 with 2years guarantee.

Reassuringly, that's sort of my view, and I'm erring towards the S2 - I don't really need any apps other than browsing & reading (and I can always dig out older versions of apps from apk mirroring sites if I need them & don't already have them).

Aaaaand I just bought one of those instead. Thanks!
(Not the sub-100 ones, though - I'm not sure I want a scratched up tablet - I'm paying 130 for a "good" grade one.)

CeX have always been really good for me. I have bought quite a few electronic items, phones, cameras, lenses and tablets, always found them to over describe the damage.

Worst thing about the 6a is the lack of volume. I'm listening to a podcast on headphones, full volume with a volume booster app maxed out.

New Nothing Phone 2 is out. I kind of like what they're doing in terms of the build of the phone and the customization of the OS but seems they're betting quite a bit on the Glyph thing that I won't get to see as soon as I put a case on it...

I've not had that issue. There's not some secret setting that limits volume is there? I know one of my mp3 players had that. It was only an issue because I was using it to run a speaker on a bike ie. wind noise.

ASUS zenfone 10 is also killer! -

I bought a Cubot Kingkong Power recently. It's a bit big and heavy. 10000mah battery though. A phone and a battery pack in one.

I'm still waiting for notches and punch out holes to go away before upgrading my used Galaxy S9. The battery lasts like 1 and half hours nowadays but at least it charges pretty fast

Yeah the Zenfone 10 looks good but the idea of buying an Asus phone doesn't make me feel great

It's basically just an s10e with bigger battery though if you want a smaller phone. I'm still really happy with mine (although I'd love a bigger battery) and you could find one cheap enough secondhand.
I hope smaller phones become popular again, I've even been tempted to move to an iPhone 13 mini because they're even smaller than the s10e, but there's quite a lot I don't like about iOS so I think I'll keep this until it dies tbh

How does a luddite do that @snottyotter

I literally did this on my partner's new 6a about 30mins ago.
Took a while to find but basically turn off Gesture control and swap for 3-button control.
Think it was under Accessibility.https://www.howtogeek.com/725118/how-to-change-the-navigation-buttons-or-gestures-on-android/

^That.

Oh the joy of simplicity returned. Much appreciated!

You fools.
Gesture naive is sublime once you get it.
If I have to use my wife's phone with 3 button nav it feels like I am hog tied.

Took me a little while to get used to gestures, but I prefer it now too

Gesture naive
You said it.
