• Amazon fire tablet now needs replacing. Not wanting to spend a fortune. What do you suggest?

I've said several times before, so here goes again; Samsung Galaxy Tab A. I've used my A7 10.4" pretty much every day for the past 2½ years, there are still some NOS ones in stock for around £130, or the smaller Lite 8.7" is £119 direct from Samsung at the moment. It's slightly ridiculous that the Spigen armour case is 20% of the price of the device, but still recommended.

  • I'm in the market for a tablet (of the old, discontinued, NOS or refurbed variety), but can't decide between the Tab A (because tester recommended) or the Tab S2 (which I have had success with in the past, although it doesn't like things dropped on it, apparently).

Does your wisdom extend to recommending one over the other?

Not sure about wisdom, but the A7 10.4"runs Android 12 (13 on the smaller Lite model) while the S2 is much older and stops at Android 6 or 7 depending on the variant. Depending on the use case, that could be a bit of a hostage to fortune as app compatibility with such and old OS version is likely to drop off.

As a portable web browser/media player, the lighter weight, higher resolution, OLED display and MHL connectivity all weigh in favour of the S2 if the price is similar

I know you have not really asked, but, I have the Tab S3 SM-T825 and it is excellent. CeX are doing them from under £100 with 2years guarantee.
