  • Screenshot on pixel 6a is also swipe up from bottom of screen and tap shortcut

  • Although sadly discovered that pause doesn't actually pause stuff fully, just pauses the notifications.

For stuff I want to properly pause I set up a work profile and have things in there that I run infrequently/don't want to give access to my main profile.

  • all my stupid loyalty cards in there

    This is the best thing.

Especially for things like Boots. or M&S where they're rarely used.

  • I've needed this for years

  • Jump straight to camera by double-pressing the power button. Works from the lock screen too.

  • fuckabout. Any more of these? keep em coming people

Zoom in and out with one finger, in G Maps for example:

Double tap screen but keep the finger on the screen with the second tap. Then slide vertically up or down to zoom. You can also "throw" the motion to do a big zoom change.

Super useful for zooming out and has the added bonus of not changing the centering of the map.

  • I'm pretty sure they had to implement that in a hurry when Apple hit them with a patent lawsuit regarding pinch-to-zoom, but now I can't find any citations online so maybe I just imagined it.

  • I have a Pixel 7 and it's volume up and power to restart or volume down and power for screenshot.. I can never get it right first time..

  • That is class, just tried it..

  • Pixel 6a, coming up to a year old.
I have it set up with 'Dark Theme', to improve battery performance.
As the weather has warmed up, and especially this afternoon,
the phone has got so hot, presumably from absorbing heat,
it has stopped charging, even when indoors, (admittedly in a warm conservatory). Only a few apps were running.
Anyone else experiencing slow charging when warm/hot?

  • 6a = £299
    7a = £399

Missus has old phone neither of us like, mostly because the camera is shit

Which of the above would you buy and why? Personally leaning towards another 6a because money and battery life.

  • Advice required. Child turning 9 and her Amazon fire tablet now needs replacing. Not wanting to spend a fortune. What do you suggest? Thanks all

  • I have yet to be impressed with my almost year old Pixel 6a.
Unfortunately I had to replace a cheap (£199) Motorola G5G, (when it fell into the River Pinn), shortly before the 7 series were launched. I paid £399, but couldn't find anything else to consider. There might have been a Samsung, who can trust a lower tier Chinese phone?
The only Pixel advantage is the software/security updates for 3/4? years.
    It is functional for podcasts/adequate photos/activity tracking/browsing.

Really? I've been using mine since Aug last year and it's been great.

Her SD card in her XCover shat itself in Poland so I just pulled the trigger on another 6a (in horrible green colour because she's a wrongun) for her. I figured I know the 6a works and it was £100 cheaper than the new one.

  • I agree with mespilus about the 6a. I really liked my pixel 2 which finally died and replaced with the 6a for 299 but in no way am liking like I liked the 2. I don't like gestures between apps, have had it a while now and still not used to operating it

  • gestures between apps

What is that? Are you guys disliking features of the OS or the phone itself?

I went from Nexus series to Samsung XCovers. XCovers were solid for ultra racing but the cameras were a let down. Love the camera on the 6a.

  • What I mean is the loss of the circle and triangle at the bottom. I spend forever swiping up and up and up to attempt to find the other apps. Maybe old fingers and new phones don't mix well

  • You can change that.

  • I have the apps I use most of the time on the homescreen(s). I rarely use the swipe up for 'more apps' option.

I've said several times before, so here goes again; Samsung Galaxy Tab A. I've used my A7 10.4" pretty much every day for the past 2½ years, there are still some NOS ones in stock for around £130, or the smaller Lite 8.7" is £119 direct from Samsung at the moment. It's slightly ridiculous that the Spigen armour case is 20% of the price of the device, but still recommended.

  • Lovely - appreciate you repeating for my benefit

  • How do you get black lfgss?

  • Sssshhhh, it's a secret

  • Or it's browser based and I've explained before a few times, can't remember the details right now though.
