• True, but the MTB world isn't quite as susceptible to the the single manufacturer eco system as the road market is, but then again SRAM can't really touch the Tiagras and Clarises of this world.

  • Yeah I do think that it is ultimately a bit of a dick move.

    Being able to mix and match everything 11 speed was great, lots of options for consumers without many compatibility issues.
    The dawn of 12 speed was the start of cross compatibility issues with chains and cassettes which has been a bit shit.
    For me, the best 12 speed mtb set up was axs mechs with shimano cassette and chain. That’s no longer possible with Transmission now, it requires sram cassette and chains.

    But both Sram and Shimano are forcing users into one eco system or the other under the guise of ‘optimal performance’. I think most folk are happy to have complete groupsets with one or the other.
    But proprietary parts are always going to be a bit wank to me.
