Those patents drawings don't show the same system but sram have patents for a strange 3 piston single sided brake caliper that uses a rotor with side to side 'float'.
Interesting that they both have these post mount brackets that attach at the axle.

I think it does make a lot of sense but does require manufacturers to adapt frames to it...
