Spent 3 days on the sofa doing R.I.C.E. Achilles inflammation has gone down nearly all the way and it's a lot less creaky. I have booked a physio for end of the week. Hopefully it will be sorted soon.
I just read an interesting article about studies into levels of radiation retained in the body which concluded the Achilles doesn't regenerate. So basically look after them as you only get one chance!

Has anyone successfully recovered from achilles tendinopathy? Injured it back in June and struggling to get any relief. Have done all recommended by physio (stretch, massage, ice) and have tried heel drops but it still won't budge.

Bumping an ancient thread. I’ve never really had issues with my Achilles before but the last week or so I’ve started feeling my left one and perhaps my right a little too. It’s not a pain but more a kind of tightness predominately on the inside of the achilles. There’s no visible swelling or any squeaking and I am able to walk on it fine - it feels like a niggle at most. I typically average 250-300km a week and this hasn’t really changed in a while so it’s not like I’ve suddenly increased my mileage. Though I had some knee issues towards the end of last year following a crash and took all of January off the bike, though since February I’ve been back to my regular weekly distance. I’ve also been using the same shoes and cleat set up and bike and saddle height as I’ve used for ages. I can’t really tell if it’s tendonitis or something milder. I’ve been icing and take anti inflammatories and also started doing eccentric calf raises in case it is a strengthening issue. Any other thoughts or suggestions welcome!

I’ve been posting in the injury thread about my Achilles rupture, which happened 1 June.
Currently researching private physio specialists in Achilles in East London - anyone have any contacts?

Hey ghost face.
I had a rupture 13 years ago.
My leg was really tight and had been noticing that tightness and a weirdness about how my Achilles felt. I was in the taper for a marathon and should have gone to see a physio. Im sure they would have said your not stretching properly (i clearly wasn't).
Jumped fr a header playing football and it went.
go and see someone to have a look and show you the degree to which you should be stretching and the special moves to do it.
Good luck.

Thanks. All was fine in the end!
I had that with my right achilles on a week-long trip in the summer (St Malo to Avignon). It swelled up, and just as you described, was tight and 'squeaky', but no real pain initially. Happened halfway through the trip, I carried on, it stayed swollen and squeaky, only started really hurting on (I think) the 2nd or 3rd day after. I should have stopped really (especially with added knee pain and hand cramps), but we were too near the end. I was quite worried that it would be something lasting, but it just went down by itself about 4-5 days after I finished, even with walking on it still, and no recurrunce since.
(Knee pain went away too after a few days, hand cramps took about 8-10 days, and full nerve/pinching/gripping strength took about 7-8 weeks to return.)
