I think they’d be fine too.

Can’t imagine Swytch saying anything other than ‘send it’. Don’t seem v concerned about stuff in general
-
• #754
surely if it already had a drum brake installed the fork would be designed (at the very least) to handle some force in that area?
This was my thinking , the Swytch motor is a fairly gentle power application too, it’s not like the jet power you get with a Bafang.

Arse. My work took ages to sort out cycle scheme details and the haibike 4 step through is now no longer available in a medium on the evans website.

Kinesis fork mentioned before has 9mm dropouts. Swytch axle is 10mm. Ffs.
Will contact Swytch, as they mention specifically in their fitting manual, but guessing that a new fork will be required as the axle isn't going to be easily swapped out.
I don't remember needing to confirm the required axle size at ordering?
Also the cable plug is fractionally too big for the pelago rack mounting point so non-axle mount front rack will be needed.
Nowt is ever straightforward. [Facepalms.gif]

I could file .5mm off each side of the axle flat, but bye bye warranty on day 1 if do.

Pretty sure there is some mention of filling in the swytch stuff for that situation

Oh, thanks. I think I'll wait to get it in reply from them so I've got it on record just incase (the manual says contact them) but file is at the ready.

I got official reply saying I have to file. Bit concerned I'll screw it up so not done yet.

Dad wagon is complete. Added the seatpost / seat and integrated bars / basket.

Looks fun! Have you had anything in the basket yet? How does it handle with the weight that high up?

Literally just got back from nursery run. Punishing carry back of her helmet and sunglasses. Unsurprisingly no difference.
Handling is fairly squirmy on this bike anyway so it wouldn’t hurt to heavy it up a bit but the most it’ll be carrying is her nursery bag for now.

Well that’s shit news. If they can’t then a profit then who can?
Sucks if you’re an owner too with all the custom parts and app infrastructure etc.

the moment they overcomplicated the thing....was over for them (just my 2 cents).... the frame was visually ok ...

Do you think it could be the case that it is just seen as an electric version of a "normal" bike, and that to Joe Public, it's not any more valuable than a cheap eBay e-bike or conversion so they ran out of people who would buy it?

I am thinking of electrifying my retro MTB. Who are the more reputable sources for full conversion kits? Thinking of trying to avoid fiery battery related injury/death.

• #770
Probably. I guess the Venn of people who think they're cool, need a bike and can afford the price is not massive though I feel like I saw quite a few of them across London. I always liked the X4.
Wonder if they'll do a fire sale?

Pop up on their site seems to be in denial...

Bafang and tongsheng? Main eBikes I see round here are conversion jobs. Other factor is probably E-scooters which outnumber ebikes by comfortably 4 to 1 round this way. Guess when vanmoof started they were less of a factor.

Very sad, I always fancied one. Possibly the only good looking e city bike?
I think they probably did over complicate/custom their bikes, which made them too expensive to make but also in turn made them unreliable, they apparently had a high proportion of returns/repairs. But it would be wrong to say they didn't sell. I see loads around London.

Bafang or for UK based you can try Cytronex, cost a little more and perhaps better on a road bike but simple and easy with one sensor, only work with QR front wheels.

i am increasingly intrigued by the growing number of e-bikes specifically targeted at deliveroo riders (e.g. zoomio and allegro). where do they come from? who develops them? who markets them?
I’ve no idea ref a hub motor, but I’ve got a set of these are they are bomb proof. The amount of shit they’ve had thrown at them and they are still holding strong.
