  • I was couch surfing after being illegally evicted when I found Flashback on a friend's SNES (some years after that game came out). OMG. I don't know if there's been a platformer since that had such consistent, flexible and intuitive controls. I could hang from a ledge and know just what to do to land slightly forwards or back from my current positon and so on. Didn't need to refer to a manual (which my friend didn't have) because the way the controls composed was so consistent.

    Now that I think back, that friend had a flatmate moving out, he promised me the room when she left, went back on the promise and that's one reason I ended up sleeping rough in London for a while, but hey, Flashback.

  • ‘Cygnet’ is the code to the last level on the mega drive version. I worked hard for that what, 25 years ago? Still stuck in my brain. I don’t remember any of the other levels having the visual impact of the first, but was impressed by the shapeshifter enemy design (and obviously the rad cut scenes)
