  • Five teams opted out:

    1. Movistar
    2. Alpecin-Deceuninck
    3. Jayco-Alula
    4. Cofidis
    5. Groupama FDJ

  • That's certainly true but I'm talking about style more than results, arguably if he was less impulsive he could have won more (but then the impulsiveness has undoubtedly won him things too).

I don't think impulsiveness is a strength when you're racing GC in the Tour though. Especially if you're not on top form.

  • Interesting, thanks.

  • £5000 sounded like a good deal for the UCI but I think they overpaid.

  • Dreamy Pete reckons that it wasn't teams underestimating Hindley that allowed him into the break, but just that it was such a large break it was uncontrollable

Lanterne Rouge sort of agrees that Hindley just sneaked into the 30+ group that formed the break and probably the other teams thought it was a different Bora rider rather than him.

  • They literally have TVs in their cars. I think they saw him and thought "fuck it, we can get them back" and then Pog's legs fell off and Vin left it too late.

Hindley wasn't the only hitter up there though.

  • They were probably too busy deciding what anodyne comment to sell to the UCI for £5000 and didn't notice a break had gone at all.

  • Anodyne and inaudible

  • They literally have TVs in their cars. I think they saw him and thought "fuck it, we can get them back" and then Pog's legs fell off and Vin left it too late.

It was a chaotic part of the race with a lot going on, teams can only mark so many people at once.

Mitch Docker on the Cycling Podcast was surprised they let him go, but he wasn't there and those who were there seem to be saying it just wasn't possible to be everywhere at once.

  • 5000 euros Will, not pounds! So £4273.

As I said France TV have total access to the race radio of the teams who have signed up and they pick what to play out. Which suggests to me that race radio isn't that exciting. Or audible.

  • I think you'll find that since we got Brexit done, it's £s. Also why all the teams now speak English.

  • thanks for heads up - think i can stomach the £6.99 this month for GCN for the on-demand highlights too :-)

  • What's the fishy backstory?

  • teams can only mark so many people at once.

They failed to notice a recent GT winner in the top 10 that was 20s off the lead?

  • He was formerly a professional fish slapper. Here's some archival footage of his father...

  • Dan Lloyd has let himself go...

  • Inrg on twitter had the teams that agreed to the radio feed.

  • Oh god this is the first time I'm seeing the 'team bus' on eurosport. Next level cringe

  • This is the first time I've fired up GCN since the classics. I've entered some 90s VR demo...

  • what are the anticipated times for summits today ?

  • Why is WVA driving the break whilst his team chase behind?

I know they’ll probably win the race, but you do have to wonder what their tactics are meant to achieve half the time.

  • Has he dropped MVDP?

  • Wout international man of mystery
