One of my favourite comedy authors coined "A pint of large" in his brentford based apocalyptic series about two middle aged men who save the world whenever it interferes with their ability to go to the pub.
I'm not generous enough to accept that cooled largers is a nod to that though.

How’s Penge this time of year?

Is that your ends? That pub is great - I don’t think they accept cards but they do have a proper skittles alley and a team. Lots of pubs like that round there that haven’t changed for 50 years.
Do you go to the mtb centre?

when i was around 5 yrs old i lived in one of the closest house to the pub ( across the road and across the field towards the green, bottom of bailey hill on the right. ) and have been exploring the area a bit recently. went in for a pint a month back. it's a bit basic but nice beer garden and good views down to the severn. the rising sun is better imho.
and pop up to the cycle centre once a month or so

That's a fact well known to those who know it well.

My folks are round the corner in Oldcroft, I keep meaning to buy a better (read: less heavy to lug to the top) mtb than my ~1995 GT LTS.
Agree re rising sun, white horse in soudley also keeping things very real

i've been doing a bit of a pub crawl / exploration of the area for the last 5 months or so, trying to visit a new pub on every ride where possible. haven't been in the white horse. that's a target for one of my next rides. the road up from blakeney to there is nice past the dean heritage centre and soudley ponds, did that a month back but had already had a pint in westbury on that ride so went past the white horse.
if you don't use the uplift, the ride to the top of the downhill area is a pretty challenging climb isn't it. not easy riding up there on a old school downhill bike i can imagine

Once went for a job in Brentford and the Bricklayers Arms (the real-world Flying Swan) was the local pub to the office I went to interview at. Popped in for a pint but didn't want the job after the interview so never went back. Shit anecdote, sorry.

Why can't we have Christmas in summer when the days are longer and the weather's nice?

It's shit. The holidays are too long (school year finishes in early December and starts again in late jan) and there's nothing to break up the dreary winter in july/August.
-
• #26989
Clearly the answer is to have your summer holidays in winter.

Gotta intimidate potential alien invaders. If they believe that an isolated prison continent surrounded by man-eating sharks, populated by venomous everything, that’s routinely blanketed by fire/water/vermin, is considered by most humans to be a highly desirable place to live, they’ll think twice before fucking with us.

Yeah. It's horrible here ... But massive prawns!

I watched District 9, I wouldn’t say massive prawns are a selling point.
