On the off chance there are others here running the Ubiquiti controller on a Raspberry Pi - the 7.3 -> 7.4 upgrade on the stock Raspbian32 OS doesn't work.
It might if you have a 64 bit OS build or you might need to install a custom MongoDB, I'm not really sure yet. Need to read more.

Deco up and running. Easy to set up and an extra node upstairs means the whole house has coverage. So far so good.

I’m really surprised you’ve been having issues. Mine have had zero drops since installation over a year ago.
Were you doing firmware updates?
Feel bad for the recommendation now…

Unifi setup would be Dream Router with an access point cabled + a repeater.
I have a Unifi Dream Machine and an AC-Lite ccess point for sale, if that helps tip the balance.
£125 the pair
Edit: should have read to the end of the thread.
Anyone else interested?

Possibly a bit basic for this thread given some of the nose-bleed inducing discussion above, but: I have a LinkSys SPNMX42 router which I understand is Mesh 6 compatible and I’d like be able to get the wi-fi signal up to the loft. Route one was upgrading my Community Fibre package but thats £10 a month more and I’d like to spend less if at all possible - can I just get another Mesh 6 compatible router and plug it in upstairs? I don’t know what I’m doing. Thanks in advance.

I'm probably interested. Will send you a DM shortly.

Don’t feel bad! Spoke to the sales guy and he said they were hit and miss. The returns he had was all from customers sharing my story, but he’s also spoken to plenty of people coming in to buy more XT8’s as they’re happy with them.
Maybe some batches are bad, some good? No idea. Either way, no harm done, easy return and the decos didn’t cost much more so all good

For now. Until the decos waves goodbye and I’m back on square one 🤷♂️

I’ve added the third XT9 to my two earlier ones to cover some dead spots in the garden (and some of the kitchen) so far so good.
Had some minor issues in the beginning but they disappeared after a few reboots/updates (and disabling the ISP wifi)

I have 4x XT8s in our current place (weird long narrow place over 3 floors that i wanted to have some stuff hooked up by ethernet in certain rooms) and they work pretty well here. i think the firmware was a little flakey for a while about 14 months or so ago but they've been pretty solid since.
I'm looking to connect them up with an ethernet back channel in our new place though to give better speeds for the wired devices i have.

3 years on Decos with zero issues so hopefully you'll be grand.

Any ideas on this?
I'm at my folks and my android phone connects to the Internet, but shows no Internet.
My work laptop connects with Internet and all my parents devices do too.
No idea if there's a relationship, but they have two signals(?) a normal and an _5g. When I'm on one the other shows as won't auto connect.
I'd quite like to be able to use the WiFi on my phone.

Fixed with a reset of the WiFi and Bluetooth settings / step 10 here
https://techwiser.com/fix-android-connected-to-wifi-but-no-internet/
... which switched my dns setting on my mobile data back to auto. When I toggled it back, then the WiFi stopped working again.
-
• #1941
So what are your dns settings? Hardcoded to your home router IP or something?
-
• #1942
Are you using a custom DNS or a VPN or something?
Parental restrictions on some ISPs block stuff like that.
-
• #1943
NextDNS
I guess they are hardcoded to each device. Not connected to the router.
Although I have only just realised that I was on the free beta version which ended years ago (used an email I don't normally use). I guess they've allowed me to carry on using the dns address(?) for those devices.

I've got a new Asus router. Looks like there's all kinds of funky new stuff, like you can set it up via a mobile phone app or something. I'd rather not piss about with mobile apps. I presume the old fashioned way of connecting it via cat5 is fine. Anyone actually using the app or their hotspot connectivity options?
-
• #1945
I use the app and it works fine but I don't do anything too funky with it. I did the initial setup via ethernet though and that went smoothly.

Ta.
Do you run the stock firmware or Merlin? I'm replacing my old Asus that's running Merlin but the stock firmware looks like it does most of the stuff I want now anyway

Before I start fucking around myself, is anyone on Community Fibre and got an independent mesh system?
Just had it installed this AM, came with a CF branded Lynksys Velop router/WiFi AP. I asked the tech whether I could plug my existing mesh (Deco M4) straight into the CF modem or does it need to go through the Velop and he flat out told me that he didn't know. He said CF sell their own mesh upgrade, but he doesn't know how 3rd party meshes work with their setup.
From what I can tell, the Lynksys Velop they provide is the "primary" and can be upgraded with either CF purchased or Lynksys branded nodes available on Amazon or other retailers. Which leads me to believe I can just disconnect the CF Velop and plug my own mesh primary straight into the CF Modem. Which would be the equivalent of putting a Virgin box into "modem only mode" which is what I have been doing up until now.
I did the ask the tech whether I could do that, and he said no, but I think he just didn't know, or he's trained to say no.

I know this is the WiFi thread rather than ISP, but £25 for 1Gbps rather than £50 for 400Mbps from Virgin is nice, and initial speedtest on the Lynksys wifi gave me 750 on my phone.

I have Community Fibre and a Deco M5 mesh set up with the primary deco plugged straight into the Cf modem. Their engineers set it up for me when they did the install and it's worked fine ever since.
That's true but I like the neatness of everything being in one place and being able to properly see what is connected where. And I assume a decent router is probably of a similar price to a USG.
