  • Nice. Good that they've shrunk it....a tiny bit.

  • And too expensive, spot on in everything though.

  • £3700?! christ on a bike

  • £3700?!

Would it be ok if it had a GS badge on it?

But yeah, it's for the faithful, that's for sure.

  • Seiko really are passing through "nice and just about affordable" to "Rolex but available"

  • £3200 / €3700

It's too expensive, but so was the SLA017. It will sell out instantly, because it's a grey dial 62MAS reissue, and because this time it's in the right size. You cannot underestimate the collector demand for that formula.

  • I'm surprised at how close they've tacked to the SLA017. It really is a 38mm SLA017 with a lower grade movement, same finishing, same materials, same dial treatment. I was hoping they might have gone with proper applied markers and logo, but nope.

Shame about the hidden lume dot at 3, but without it I guess they wouldn't have been able to have "Diver's" on the dial.

  • Country Director for Piaget could be an interesting job for somebody on here: https://shorturl.at/imEW4

  • New mudman, GW-9500
£330 for the positive display and £350 for the others.

  • It's so far outside my wheelhouse, I'd never buy one, but I like the design.

  • It will sell out instantly

Did you enquire about it? All sold now apparently....

  • Fortunately (?) I was made aware of it in advance… so yes, I have one with my name on it. I am hearing Seiko UK massively underestimated demand and now wishes they had asked for more allocation.

  • I always liked these... not made by Grayson themselves anymore (they might always have been outsourced, but used to be badged up with their own logo), but still nice looking bits of kit. Can be desk- or wall-mounted.

  • It was always going to be. I'd bet there will be more colour variants later that won't be so difficult to get hold of (the same as with the blue dial variants of the SLA017).

  • I do not understand Seiko at all. No offence to anyone but what are they? Mall brand, mid end or high end? So weird.

  • That’s the bit I don’t understand

  • They have a lot of heritage as a watchmaker. A lot of innovations, and a lot of very high quality watchmaking, but they are also a very large mass market watch company which is vertically integrated, i.e. they make every part of their watches themselves. There isn’t really a modern equivalent in the west.

They are aware that using the name Seiko across all these different ranges / levels is a problem in western markets where people mainly associate the brand name with cheap quartz watches from the ‘80s. But it is what it is. I think they’re making a lot of progress with Grand Seiko now.

  • pukes on cock

  • I agree with most of that but think they’re taking the piss with that pricing.

I think my problem is that I just don’t like the brand very much so I should probably just be quiet and let you all enjoy them 😊

  • Nah I get it. It's one very specific watch and it will sell like hot cakes because of what it is, and Seiko know that, hence the price. They will follow it with a blue dial version at the same price and that won't sell.

It isn't logical. The SLA017 wasn't logical, it's just something collectors want and because it's limited in numbers, those collectors are confident enough that they won't lose money. So they sell out straight away.

Objectively, yes, it's far too expensive. The SLA017 was about the same price when it came out in 2017 (so more expensive than this, adjusted for inflation), and the same discussions happened then. In terms of spec, movement and finishing it was basically the same as the Marinemaster 300 (except a lower water resistance rating), and yet it was twice the price of a Marinemaster. Truth is, those of us that love the 62MAS design line up to have our pants pulled down by Seiko when they deign to make a proper one.

Been seeing a lot of comments about how it should be this or that but those people are missing the point. It's pure fan service. Non-fans should probably just point and laugh, and move along.

  • Design-wise those are a really good effort. Really surprised they have a domed sapphire at that price too.
