• My Tripster has been running 46/30 with 11-42T on the back for a couple of years now I think. I've got a 46T here I was going to try it out with but it just flew to Poland today so that ain't happening.

  • Everyone says that but I prefer to ride when I can. So the lower the gears, even if I'm riding at walking pace it's better than getting on and off. Plus there's the techy bits where you want a little burst of speed to get up and having lower gears allows that without killing your legs. ie. MTBs with 30x51 or whatever. This might change when I swap my fat-tyres for something more roadie but I'm still likely to ride silly shit on the grav grav

  • anything more than 30/42 and you may as well walk, no?

Nope, MTBers been riding gears lower than that for ages.
