Is the last pic Mudeford?
-
• #27778
Yes it is!
The short ferry ride was fun.

Looks like a great trip, great pics too. We went the other direction and quite enjoyed getting tipsy before that little ferry ride.

Doing a very similar ride in a couple of weeks, it sounds great!

i've run across an xtr di2 groupset for super cheap and was thinking about putting it on my currently stripped to the frame traildonkey, which has a normal road braze-on fd. i am aware that the shimano mtb fd don't have an off the shelf way to mount to a road fd mount, but is anyone aware of a solution?

Will a MTB 2x derailleur even work with the cranks you're using?
-
• #27784
it'd be an xtr 38-28 so yes
-
• #27786
One by?
-
• #27787
yea the only interest is in a wide range 2x
-
• #27788
Silly idea: what if you installed 2xbatteries and maybe junction boxes and ran the FD and RD and the shifters as totally separate Di2 instances?
-
• #27789
Trim the braze on from the frame and run a band on adapter?
-
• #27790
ha. yea that'd be a hack. hella battery life too. would mean the auto-trim wouldn't work though.

seat-tube is square. do think the few people i've seen with gravel bikes and mtb di2 2x i've seen have all had band-on clamps which obviously work fine. i was just hoping there was some direct mount adapter type thing someone had made. doesn't seem to be though.

The number of people using 2x MTB groupsets will be fairly small these days and the number of people wanting to put it on a gravel bike, even fewer.
Just run 1x? -
• #27793
You’ll need to cut the braze on anyway as it likely won’t allow you to lower it enough to reach the 38t.
-
• #27794
Probably, directly mount to BB, maybe new derailleur.

How were the nudists? ;-)

• #27796
rodeo makes a special low mount hanger so not an issue i don't think
-
• #27797
i have esoteric preferences
-
• #27798
I was thinking of doing similar - I prefer 2x for gravel and have a hard-on for huge cassettes. Would love to find a combo or firmware hack that could allow MTB Di2 to work with GRX bits.

Funnily enough I got a Camino Ti on order with a 46/30, the plan is to put a 11-40t cassette on it.
(30t with 40t cassette is easier than a 38t with 50t cassette)

Btw you kinda can? Currently you can run 11-36t cassette on your system, depending on your frames hanger kength, a 40t cassette might work without a hanger extender.
A fascinating collection of South Coast 'gravel'. In all seriousness, it's really quite nice down there, who knew.
PS - hillier than expected near Lulworth. Divorce was muttered more than once.
