Well done @Baerli_Baer.
10k this week, slacked off since April marathon, aiming for anything sub 40, can imagine it will hurt a lot. -

First track race yesterday. 3000m in Watford. Mostly racing against 14yr olds and the occasional other 40+ (there were two quicker heats after mine)
Wanted to go under 10mins. Paced it fairly well. Maybe borderline a bit conservative since I wasn't completely hating life throughout. 3:19/km average for 9:56. Pleased with that.Long evening though for a 10min effort. 90min drive there, race at 9.15pm, hour drive back.

Update on this:
- Reached to Saucony, who asked to get in touch with the reseller first.
- Did that, and after minimal arguing was told to bring the shoes back to the store to get a voucher worth 50% of the purchase price.
- Did that, and after minimal arguing was told that it would fall under the one-year manufacturer warranty and that i would be reimbursed 100% of the purchase price.
So bought myself a pair of On Cloudmonster instead, for 30€ extra!

Good effort. The race and the travel. Have you got any more lined up?

not got another track race yet, though planning on doing some.
I was looking at the SALs in July, but the fixture clashes with Asics 10k that I'm already signed up for. Will do Assembly League next week too as that's very local, so a few chances to get some racing in - I'm normally good at sticking to training but lousy at signing up to races. -

I run to help with fitness three times a week. I'm not fast, but it's nice to see improvement and have been using mapmyrun and connected shoes to track my progress.
I've just bought a Fitbit Charge 5 to compliment that as I'm interested in getting a bit of heart rate info and curious about the sleep tracking side of things.
Before I got the charge 5 I was under the impression it would link up to mapmyrun, but it looks like the two don't play together.
I've been happy with mapmyrun for ages, but I suppose what I'd like to know is what more experienced runners recommend I use going forwards? Is Fitbit run tracking good anyway? Any reason I should stick with mapmyrun as all my history is on it?

mapmyrun
you could get a cheap basic garmin forerunner, ie the 45, second hand of ebay and see if you like that. does all the things you want it to, hr, sleep tracking etc. it links with the garmin connect app which also has suggested workouts, routines and various data fields for you to look at it too.

A quick google suggest it should be possible to use your fitbit data with mapmyrun:

Thanks for this, but I did try Google before hitting up the hive mind! That thread is quite out of date now, it looks like mapmyrun used to support Fitbit, but maybe not now. I couldn't get it to link using anything in that thread anyway!
I'll give the Fitbit app a chance and see how it goes. My running buddy is using mapmyrun so will be able to see how they directly compare.

Thanks. Before I pulled the trigger on the Fitbit I was thinking of just adding a Polar Verity Sense to my set up to get HR data, but I thought the Fitbit was a more versatile option. Maybe this was a mistake.
I was also looking for something that could be worn on areas other than the wrist, so most of the watch type items were out for me

hr straps will be more accurate, although the newest models in watches are pretty good. probably no real need to spend more money on a hrm, unless you really want to..

Has anyone had any experience using the training plans on garmin watches? If so, are they are good?

2nd time getting a place in the ballot out of 7 entries. This will be my 3rd time running making it my most-run event I think!
-
• #29267
Nothing yet, except for a no in the second chance ballot for the LLHM.
-
• #29268
Nothing here either, I'm taking that as a bad sign...
-
• #29269
I can't remember if I entered the ballot or not, so I'm assuming I won't get a place.
I ran the longest that I have in nearly 7 months on Monday, 2:40 - once round a 400m track. Still hurts, I'll keep doing the rehab

I’ve been using them for a while and they seem to work well.
I’ve no idea about training, I was just going out for a run a couple of times a week, sometimes slow, sometimes less slow. I wasn’t really improving much and was just plodding around 5k-10k distance.
I found that if you put an event in the calendar on your Garmin, it’ll make daily run suggestions to get you up to whatever target time you’ve set.
I used it for about 3 months for a 10 mile race at Easter. I was hoping for sub 1h30 but after mostly following the watch suggestions it gave me an estimated time of 1h22. I ran a 1h24 so was more than happy with that.
Followed the watch again for a trail 10k a few weeks back and managed a good time in that as well.Needless to say, I’m pretty happy with it and plan on trying to use it to get my 10k time sub 50 and my 5k to sub 20.
My only criticism of it is that it’ll often have multiple back to back base run days, sometimes six or seven in a row. For me that’s just asking to be injured but it may work well for others. -

I deferred due to injury this year, quite excited to be running next.
Will be taking it somewhat more seriously than previously. -
• #29272
Just arrived.
"Not this time"
Phew (although the "defer and aim for the year after" is my usual strategy anyway.)

Does anyone have a recommended 5k plan for someone who runs 4 times a week (15-20 miles in total) and would like do so sub 22 (previous best 22:47 a couple of months ago). Thanks!
5k PB round Dulwich ParkRun - 19:03
Well pleased with this. Specially considering the 4 beers and midnight bedtime last night
