  • Has anyone in here used 650bs on the planet x xla frame?
Is there a rough guideline to : use 650b and the max tyre width will be?

Stock up on CX bikes (for small people/kids)

  • I've signed up for the Summercross round 1 race but I have no idea what the fuck I am doing.

Is there anywhere in SE London I can train on my own that might be similar to a CX track?
I know HHV do courses and I've signed up for 1 but I don't want to pay £11 every time I want to practice cornering.

  • Any park that isn’t very busy. Find two trees and do figures of 8, learn dismounting and remounting and you’ll be fine.

These are also great but call hub velo to check they’re on atm

  • Where in se London?

Crystal Palace has some stuff, beckenham place park too.

  • South Norwood Country Park is great too, with far fewer people around to get in the way.

  • Happy to be corrected by people who are actually good at CX but starting out I think it comes down to three aspects: top end fitness, general tekkers, and dis and re-mounting. Because it's an actual race people go hard. If you don't have a lot of off road or remounting experience then having a good one-hour engine can see you mix with the group and have a lot of fun. Secondly is the general tekkers, ie keeping it upright after hitting a nasty root, doing tight corners fast etc - NCN 21 / general off-road shit (on whatever tyre you're going to race on) will help with this if you've got time. And then yeah there is lay some sticks down in a park and practice jumping / mounting / dismounting. For a first race I'd say the engine is the most important, then the general tekkers, and then the mounting and remounting, especially for summer cross where it's likely to be dry and grassy and fast. You'll see gains by having all three, but for a fast summer course I'd say there are more gains (and you're more likely to be in the mix) if you focus on 1 and 2.

  • Can confirm it's not during the summer. (HV is my club and go to these sessions). They usually run from Sept-March. Great fun though, definitely come down when the season starts!

  • ffs I just paid £600 for a Chinese CX frame

  • just ride with phil on thursdays

  • I'd have said ride with AndyP but no1 needs to get up at 4:30am

  • Anyone have a super x in a 58 or 60 who could help me out?

  • PREACH

(Technically, it’s about 53o-6 you need to get up if you do his dad o clock sessions)

  • I haven't left the house before 0630 all year. Now the kids sleep later, I don't have to go out as early.

  • @leggy_blonde - who has been organising semi-regular Thursday evening off road rides from Croydon Arena.

  • “You do one early morning ride!”

  • To be fair, I did a lot more than one.

  • Also interested in the am ones, but I assume we are talking South.. @leggy_blonde rides don't go well with parenting constraints #previouslife

  • Nothing wrong with that, just sleep more in winter

  • TBH, Moor Large (Forme's distributor) went bust a few months back, so not so much Forme stock at the moment. Think Paul Milnes has them for £425

  • SWCX calender is out, just in time for July and August panic training..

  • Did anyone race last night?

  • This is me - same league, same logic.

I’ll be on a single speed Cross Check if you want to say hi!

  • Me, @andyp @neilp and a few others I think
