If it's just for games console will probably give better bang/buck than a pc at that price. If you want an upgrade path then maybe AMD with built in graphics and play some indy games and buy a GPU down the line? Better value prospect than the **50 level cards I think.

A mate mate was asking. It's for his kid. Nominally for homework too but I don't think much of that happens.

If they're just playing Fortnite then an Xbox Series S is more than up to the task

Anyone have a spare PSU for sells? Trying to build a budget build for a nephew.

• #8731
Got a motherboard, PSU and case if you can be bothered to collect from near Cambridge.
Can have them for £0

• #8732
What else do you need?
-
• #8733
OHHHHH super generous but I don't thing I'll be passing through Cambridge anytime soon. Would be happy to pay postage on PSU?

Lemme think.... possibly just a storage although I can prob find an old spinner to see if I it all works first, I'm using an old Z97 1150 mobo I have kicking about.

Why are push notifications a thing? I will deny evertiem. One industry website in particular requests I accept them every single time I visit the site regardless of cookie settings. Fuck it all.
-
• #8741
I use 'Wipr' with Safari, which eliminates this kind of shit, along with cookie permission prompts etc.

thing I hate the MOST is on mobile's those damn video's on every fucking website. Have to zoom in to find the x button to close them. I dunno why or how this all got started
-
• #8743
Stupid question to ask presumably is if you trust wipr? Seems like accepting one third party bullshit to avoid another third party bullshit and just bullshit bullshit basically.
-
• #8744
Yep, I accepted the fact that unless you put in disproportionate time & effort to configure and maintain open-source firewalls/ad blockers (which I no longer have the inclination to do), the path of least resistance is just accepting the less intrusive flavour of bullshit and living in blissful ignorance.

Monitor chat.
I wonder if I'm looking at things the wrong way. I've been holding out for something 'right' to come out and nothing has materialised.
I THINK I want a pair of 27" monitors, 1440p or higher, minimum 144hz (240 would be lovely). No big bezels/logos/physical switches on the front, no RGB gibberish.
A variant of the Dough Spectrum looks pretty solid to me but I'm advised by the resident bmx116 not to risk giving them money.
But DO I want a pair of 27" screens? My reasoning is so I can have editing software (realistically PUBG) on one screen and a script/brief/email/research whatever on the other.
But can you compartmentalise an ultrawide? What about performance? Where would I get the best performance? Two x 27" or an ultrawide? I'm presuming I don't want a regular 16:9 in 40" or something? If it's two x 27" monitors, I'd like both to be the same - ideally with some calibration so if I ever cross between windows with software my colours won't shift.
Who's using what? At home I'm currently on a single 27" 1080, 240hz screen which is absolutely fine for PUBG but I struggle with juggling work on it (though I do plug the editing monitor over a decklink, to a SmallHD Cine 13)

+1 for my new home office.

I’ve gone from a 27” to a 49” ultrawide to a 38” ultrawide and, aside from wanting an OLED version, I’m super happy with where I’ve ended up.
Found the 49” to be annoying because it’s too wide. Impossible to take in the whole screen at once so you’re constantly moving your head from side to side.

The fuuuuuuuuuck you do that requires that much real estate?

I've done the last decade on a single 27" monitor.
A small 13" monitor for the laptop and travel is good... but a single 27" is all I've needed at home.

What are you using? My Dell IPS 24" won't die but I've had it so long I'm in sentimentality zone.
I seek a wide and accurate colour gamut. Not very fussed about refresh rates despite using it 50/50 gaming and photo editing.
If it's for undemanding games anyway, you could get a Steam Deck and a dock for that. It'd have more RAM and optional portability...
