  • Just been into bromton junction in Covent Garden to have a gander and I agree they do have quite a satisfying click to them when connecting. However in the store I did find them a little fiddly to get seated well, which does slightly concern me when they aren’t as new and clean. Also the connection looks to be a simple hex bolt, which seems at risk of wear and therefore longevity may be compromised?

  • No idea I'm afraid, I just did some searching and found the bag there.

  • Yeah its fully plastic. No latex here.

  • Yeah they're TPU - Thermoplastic Polyurethane

  • I found the MKS Compact too small for my feet, so went for the Litepros. The tolerances were so bad that the spindle wobbled around in the crank and they went straight into the bin.

Back to the larger MKS now, which have been rock-solid.

  • Kinda tempted by the MKS ones still. Their non-qr pedals I have already are great even after no care and attention. Which did you go for in lieu of the compacts?

  • How about a heftier option?
    Wellgo LU-087U https://www.merlincycles.com/wellgo-b087u-platform-pedal-53356.html

They’ve been on my Brom for 11 years, never gone wrong and needed zero maintenance, though at some point the reflectors left the party.

  • Mks tiny bubble are in-between the compacts and the full size bubble, loro have stock now I think

  • Oh neat. Didn’t know about these. Don’t need lightweight, just decent platform pedals that can be removed without a spanner really. Will check them out, thanks

Edit: not qr, sad times :(

  • I'm loving my P-Line, makes me wish I'd got one years ago, great fun to punt around and it corners surprisingly aggressively - a function of the small wheel diameter when you lean it in (don't lean!) I imagine.

The only thing I find annoying is the car valves - if I swap Presta tubes in there will the world end?

Can you get little sleeves to reduce the size of the hole?

  • No issues with Presta and Mavic rims used to come with them inserts.

Or certain brands tubes come with a stepped valve nut.

  • I’m rejoining the brom club for the first time in almost ten years. Can’t wait, and need to decide on luggage. I’ve done a lot of googling so do have some awareness of what’s out there, but does anyone have any bags they like in particular that might not be as obvious as Brompton’s own luggage? Ideally a solution that has a frame integrated into the bag and not one where you have to buy a frame separately.

I’m looking for something the same size as the old T Bag, so about 25-27L.

  • Thanks! Be much more convenient if I can use the track pump on the Brompton.

  • Bromptons stuff is pretty well designed so I'd stick to that unless there's a reason to choose someone else's.

I liked the touring bags on both my dad's stolen bikes. It was good enough for me to source one for the 2nd bike at least. It lived on the bike and was excellent for shopping and often when I borrowed it I was loading it up with stuff. Plus I found the two rear facing pockets really useful for keys/phone/wallet. It would have probably been over 15yo when it got nicked and was still in good condition (although had had an easy life).

But it is big and not very ergonomic as a bag off the bike. So I'd say it's an on-the-bike bag - if that makes sense?

  • Looks like the Borough Large Roll Top Bag is the modern version. @amey don't you have this?

  • Large Borough Roll top or Freitag (or both depending on where you are going)

  • yeah its great! HUGE bag with 2 massive bottle pockets at the back. Comes with rain cover too.

  • It looks really good and a much more thorough build than the T Bag - which was a true Brompton product - eye gouging price for a good design low effort build.

The only thing is the poppers on the rear facing pockets - I liked the roll top. Although I guess the clips could flap a bit when using it as a bottle holder. I always thought a 3rd rear facing little pocket for keys would have been good as I liked having my phone and wallet in one, keys in the other, but then you can't put a bottle in. Super minor point, just me thinking out loud.

  • Personally I would choose the old T bag (send gen) over the new borough bag.

The grey design is a little meh and and looks more nicer in black, also there is more storage in the old T bag.

In the perfect world it would the waterproof borough version in black.

  • old T also good, not easy to buy these days

i remember reading somewhere it doesent play well with S type bar, not sure

  • Yes, I think if you way over pack it too the top turning is a struggle (ie not able to roll it).

  • Recent tour (before crash)
