  • Been a while, but after abusing this bike for so many years. It’s finally time to give this bike major upgrade to give it a lighter feel and kick when commuting around town.

    Upgrades includes the following:

    Saddle: fizik Antares 00
    Seatpost: Brompfication
Wheelset: carbon SMC rims with hubsmith ceramic hubs.
    Tyres: gum wall continental urban
    Bolts: Brompfication ti bolts
    Grips: Ergo GE1
    Inner tube: tubolito
    Rear mounted lights on saddle
Pedal: return back the Brompton folding, itching to get some lighter one later on.
    Derailleur: Brompfication 2 speed

So far the weight is 8kg (without bags)

  • Very smart! Envy !! :) :)

  • Best thing about this is the happy accident of how compact it is when it is folded and how the Rapha messenger bag folds upwards to be inline of the profile of the folded Brompton.

Which is perfect for when it needs to be carried or required a cover bag.

  • Love the SMC Plume wheels.
Where did you get them from?

  • Those rims look awesome

  • Small updates with the workhorse:

  • What's the weight?

  • That is rad!

  • Probably the same as before or heavier with the rear rack now.

  • Greenland Dock?

  • Did you notice a decrease in breaking performance when you put on the wheelsmith carbon rims? I'm also going out on a limb and guessing they are heavier than the Brompton rims (cooler granted).

  • These are SMC rims, a lot lighter (760 grams) braking is around the same as alloys in the dry, just wet is a little bit sketchy but that's will all carbon rims.

  • Think I saw on the other thread that you're doing L2P on this? If I may make a small recommendation (as someone who did L2P on a Brompton a few weeks ago), it would be add a bottle cage rather than try to carry water on your back. I found long days on the compact reach to be hard on my back, and this was partially mitigated by holding a water bottle on the steerer rather than with a Camelbak or similar

  • Thanks, which route did you do?

We did this with a few mates last year and one bottle was definitely an issue, but I got myself a T-bag (second gen) which I'll be carrying 3x750mm bottle as this year looks hot hot hot!

Also will be enjoying the ride this year instead of riding for speed - will still complete it under 24 hours though ;)

  • We did London - Portsmouth - Caen - Evreaux - Paris, over 3 days. Big group of new riders so wasn't fast. 24hrs on a Brommie is quick though!

  • Should have done this but taken a little longer to get to Paris and this happened too… #staycrashy

  • Those Tubolito things are dangerous

  • Eep, what happened to the front wheel? No broken bones or lost teeth I hope!

  • Heat, burst the plastic inner tubes and the broken carbon rims.

  • what!?

  • Holy shit. Glad you're ok and could improvise your way out of it

  • Such a nice idea!

  • Sometimes just not to get angry and think how to solve the problem to get back on track :)
