  • So I built this up a while ago but it just sits in the garage and so was wondering if it's worth turning it into a more road geared bike and use or just get rid and get a newer road bike.

Its just setup with single brake lever which does front and rear brakes, single speed rim brakes. Yes those bars are wide... haha.

  • Where do you even hold those bars

  • EVERYWHERe!

  • Split out the better parts sell, then sell the rest as job lot.

  • 1st - flip bars "upside down"
    2nd - WIN

  • Bars have been turned the other way now

  • When cruising along it's really nice to just hold the ends but then mostly hold them near the brake

  • Took some pictures when I was flipping those bars over -

  • Too far gone, new bike time

  • Top pic is an improvement already. If you have the desire, then build it as road, why not?

  • This is the thing is it worth doing it.

Would need - Wheels, Cranks, Brifters, mechs
    All the more expensive stuff

  • I kinda do, but see above

  • What do you want to use it for?

  • Just mix up my riding, so just a lunch time road ride local to me, starting to get bored of the same routes off road etc. As limiting to so much an 1-2 hour window you can do.

  • I'd say keep it for that, as long as you think you'll enjoy the process of building it up. It looks like decent 531 and the clearances are quite tight so it might be quite sprightly. A modern frame would be stiffer, but I reckon you could build that into something quite fun for a 1-2 hour thrash.

  • Looks like a nice frame, beautiful lugs and from what I can see it's 520 or 525 tubing. I'd easily keep that and give it some decent parts.

  • I guess it just comes down to costa of changing it all etc.

It does feel nice on the road, it’s a 525 Triathlon frame, can get 28s on there too.

There is a Canyon local which could be the right side, carbon wheels etc for £1500

    Get that

  • This bike looks too small for you, get the Canyon.

  • The top tube is a little short but not a deal breaker, with the seat post at the correct height.

  • I'm not sure what the issue is, cost?

To me it looks like a lovely, well made classic road frame. Post a wanted ad for the bits you need then build it up as cheaply as possible and see if you like the ride. If you like it, upgrade the parts to build the bike you want.

E.g. I can image someone has a spare rear wheel somewhere that you could have for next to nothing. Might even have a cassette on it too.

Then it's a front and rear mech and shifters. I'd go 10 speed for everything out of ease. If you're really worried about cost, go bar ends as they seem to hold their value forever regardless of shifter advances.

  • £15o on this mini groupset

You could probably move it on for similar money if you want to part it out.

  • Was wanting to see if it would be worth my time and money to swap it out to be a geared bike.

I have decided to go down this route.

Now wondering if 126OLD can have 130 OLD wheel or go with a 7 speed screw on to the existing wheels

  • I do have a WTD post up for the parts

  • Yes just spread the dropouts when you fit the wheel, it's fine. It's only 2mm each side
