Genuinely sorry if I am asking something stupid. Really not sure of what I am doing.
Was looking at split ring crown race, as you mentioned, and this https://www.condorcycles.com/collections/headsets/products/condor-headset-crown-race?variant=44762169540929 came up, the photo looks like a normal crown race. Then noted that there was the headset in the link and telephoned condor to confirm that they had one in the shop and it was IS2.
So I asked you guys to confirm.

That’s probably just a stock photo and for £3 I say give it a try.
When I did mine I just got an IS2 and fitted it straight from the box so have no idea what the angles etc were. The only extras I needed were some shims to take up the slack. Would be worth getting a few while you’re there. Mine came out of the parts bin for pence. -

That one’s for a tapered fork. You need a straight 1 1/8 one.

Ah, thank you. So not all IS2 bearing are the same. Didn't know that. Glad I asked.

When you go in ask them what they’d suggest? You’re not the first to do it. And I’m sure they’ve done it themselves. I bet most langsters that have been used are now either running an internal headset or loose ball bearings in their old caged headset.

Not taking things personally, sorry it it comes across as that. Am clueless with integrated headsets. I know more about threaded headsets where you have to measure the fork crown. With this langster I have less than no idea as I need to work out what someone else has done replacing the bearings and installing a different fork.

There is literally a thread called Langster Integrated Headset dedicated to swapping Langsters to cartridge bearing IS2 headsets, and it has already been pointed out to you because you CBA to UTFS in the first place.

Can I just check this before I squash this all together and void various warrantees. First time I’ve fitted an old school external headset.
Does this look right? Richey classic threadless 1 1/8 on Brother All Day. The bottom cup and seal sits a bit high on the fork, if I just squash it down will it go? There’s a bit of a shoulder on the top of the fork that stops it sitting flush.

How do you plan to "squash this all together"?
I'd usually squash the crown race on with one tool, then squash the headset cups into the frame with something else.
And I'd my best try to avoid squashing any actual bearings.
Looks like everything should fit though. -

If I take the bottom ring off then it all sits flush on the top of the fork, as I would have expected. But it would then be the bare bearing sat on the fork top which can’t be right.

I have a press to do the cups into the head tube, just thinking about the lower bit. Or am I worrying about nothing?

You need the crown race, "bottom ring".
It should be a tight fit unless it has a split in it. You will need to press it onto the fork and press the headset cups into the frame.
You will need press tools for this. -

Usually you'll chase and face the fork crown to remove excess paint and have a flat surface for the crown race to sit.
A crown race setter is then what you use to fit it.

Also, grease is your friend. Fitting a crown race without a tool or good size pipe can be annoying

Ah. Ok thanks I get it. So I need another tool to squash the bottom ring, crown race, onto the top of the fork. I think previous modern ones I’ve done have all been split, it’s all just pushed together before.

Who said just run a hack saw through one side of the race? How very dare you suggest such a thing? But you could just clean up the cut with a file and you have a split race? Get behind me satan.

Yeah I just do this with a Dremel and it slides right on.
