  • So this is happening. Hopefully the Xtracycle arrives this week.

  • Thinking of getting a skateboard deck for it, like this.

  • There is a bike with an xtracycle extension I often see locked up in my neighbourhood but I don't know the owner. Really interested in what it feels like riding it.

  • Sick. An extracycle extension for my Troll was my plan A for getting into the cargo bike life. Will be very interested to see where this goes.

  • What a find!

  • Well it was delivered today. Fingers crossed it’s there when I get home. 😅

I’m trying to figure out what to do with the rear wheel. The Xtracycle is canti / v-brake / disc for 700 / 29er or disc for 26”.

    I have a few options:

    1. Run a 700c rear wheel (I have a few) and hopefully be able to run a big tyre (700x50c) which I also have.
    2. Use existing 26” wheel and buy some cantilever brake post extenders to drop brake posts down from 700c to 26” so I can use existing v-brakes.
    3. Buy disc 26” rear wheel and calliper. This is my least favourite of the three as it is more money, and the front wheel is v-brake.

  • Ha I remember when seeing this wild Big Dummy.

Looking forward how this Xtracycle build will go on!

  • Have been trying to justify the purchase of this today.

Admittedly there has been quite a few days where I commute to work / school, but we catch the train and ride from there. It’s fine with the Yuba, but occasionally it can be a bit of a headscrew, purely due to the size.

I’m thinking of using the Xtracycle on those days. Just put a stoker stem and some narrow bars for my son to hold on to. I’ll save the electric Yuba Mundo for the full commute, or when I have both kids.

  • Finally unboxed this. Glad I did. The rear brake has the booster / adjuster on it to run 700c. I wanted to run a 26” wheel on this, and now I can because the canti posts are for 26”. It also fits a big tyre (this is 26x2.4”), I don’t think I’ll have any problems with the tyre and mudguard I want to use.

My only concern is actually attaching it to the frame. It has this bracket that clamps on the chain stays, but it looks like it’s missing a part. Also, the Gary Fisher has a weird chain catcher welded on the bottom of it. I guess I can botch something up. I hope. I do have two other frames though.

Edit: it’s not missing a part, but(!) the Gary Fisher doesn’t have a chainstay bridge.

  • A friend just dropped this off for the top. He works for the council and this was left at the city skatepark. Looks barely ridden. Nice and wide too. He also gave me details of another friend that might be able to weld a chainstay bridge in.

I’m going to buy something like this and stick it on the deck from the front truck holes to almost the top graphic.

  • Now that this is pretty much finished, time to start working on this.

Thinking of cutting up this Yepp adapter to attach the skateboard deck to the frame. It clamps on and I could use the truck holes to bolt the deck on (with some drilling).

  • Other idea I had was this mudguard that was a giveaway in the bike lock up at work.

With some tweaking and bodging I think I can make it fit. I flipped the stays around and it almost fits perfectly. I do like how it has such solid stays. Good for keeping little feet out of wheels. It’s also got a dynamo light attached. I wonder if I could rig up something from a battery? I have no idea.
