I'm thinking of getting a Paddy Wagon as it offers exactly what I'm after in a road fixed. Is there much of a difference between the various generations or are they all basically the same thing?

The early ones used nice deda tubing. Later ones a cheaper own brand steel.

Also after one of the earlier ones in 56 or 59, one of the best looking bikes to date (IMO)

Unsure about the Paddy Wagon but doing my research on the Honky Tonk which is a similar platform it looks like they increased the rear stay length later on to increase clearance.

I've had/have 2 Paddy Wagons, both set up as functional all weather commuters. The first (2007 model?) was brand new as an insurance replacement but I didn't really start commuting on it until 2011 and it lasted until 2017 when it was run over by a truck. The 2nd (2009 model?), I bought the frame in 2017 and the parts are a bit flashier. Both fit 28C and mudguards with deep(er) drop brakes, though the clearance is quite tight - it does depend on the trueness of the wheel, where the wheel is on the dropout and tyre choice, but the only really tight part is under the brake. Excuse the Gatorskins but 28c fit with guards, I hardly ever puncture with these and don't seem to notice poor wet weather grip.

"I hardly ever puncture with these"
Well, that put the mockers on didn't it? Rear wheel puncture on way home (nighttime, cold, wet, it's winter here in NZ). Replaced tube on side of road, pumped up, forgot mudguard doesn't allow for inflated tyre when putting the wheel back on, undo mudguard, fit wheel, oil and grime everywhere, ride 2km, tyre goes down again as I obviously had not checked the tyre well enough. Phone wife, wife in club playing pool, walk 5km home. -

Thanks, in general I think older hybrids can be built into quite good bikes.

My Sutra LTD before things got muddy. Love this bike. I'm planning on sewing some more bags for it, so I can remove the front rack, and tighten up the handling a bit. At least a frame bag, but maybe also a small Carradice style sadle bag, or a bar roll.

Nice! I've been thinking of hybridizing my 2020 sutra ltd with flat bars! How do you rate the Mezcals? I want to replace my Thunder Burts with something a bit sturdier but fast rolling tires.

I like the Mezcals a lot. I mainly ride forest roads, gravel roads, double track country roads and stuff like that with this bike, so no technical trails, and I find them perfect for that. Doesn’t feel too slow and has plenty of grip on the occasional steep sections. Haven’t had a puncture yet either, and I guess I have somewhere between 500 and 1000 km on them so far.
@MisterMikkel thanks, those are great! That last one was a big inspiration for my frame bag for my Omnium.

Will there be any interest in Kona Kapu frameset? 52cm, Reynolds 853, very good condition. It can take up to 28c (I ran it with 25c with mudguards and there was still ample of space) and longer reach brakes. £250 ONO.
The only problem is that the frameset in EU so probably you will have to pay some import taxes.

Where about in the EU? I have a mate that I think would be quite keen for this.
