Yeah that's a fair comment, it's actually more the wait time than cost that's the issue. I do already own a duomid, plus their event bivy, and that's what pushes me to get the soloxl as the build quality is another level.
Could do with swapping the duo to a bigger version, bit tight with the four of us (wife, son and dog!)

You need an ultamid 4 or an MLD Supermid! :) Or a TT Cloudburst.
But yeah, sounds like you definitely need more space.

Are you buying this for a race or for longer term. Maybe that's why you can't decide?
Buy the lightest, fastest one for the race and then sell it off afterwards and then worry about your 'family' tent selection.

I think the problem is that you're comparing mass produced tents (TT, HMG, SMD, ZPacks, Hilleburg) to a cottage owned and operated company (MLD). That's why its spenny. If you wanna support Ron and co, drop the cash for the MLD. It'll be worth it in the long run. The price difference is the cost of one or two nights in a hotel. No big deal after you've used the shelter 20 times.
