Not exactly their lightest tent, but just been using our Tarptent Scarp2 on the Pembrokeshire Coast. Been reliable as always, even though it's been so benign weatherwise.

Wise!
Looks a lovely spot.

I've been through some bits but it's a floorless tent with no bathtub insert so it's not so good in mega high wind and rain.
I take it when I want to do bigger miles, just me, out for 3-5 days, and I can't tarp.
I have slept in it for 10 days straight and I didn't hate myself. -

Thanks. Makes me come back around to needed a bomber tent. The solomid with inner would do it, but would be 900g. Which almost makes me think I might as well get a hilleberg enan (if I could afford it) or tarptent moment dw. I loved how bomber my old terranova 1 was, but was a bit claustrophobic.

Thanks that's interesting. I actually own a hilleburg nallo 2 for serious conditions. But his scenario 1 sounds serious. I spoke with Annie le a bit as she has the HMG and uses it in Scotland, plus with the conditions i had in Kygyzstan before with the altaplex I know pyramids are super solid. I think the MLD would be a bomber tent for all but the most serious of wind.
I'm still not sure what my answer is, the tarptent moment is super cheaper compared to others. And the solomid with inner almost twice the price.
I think what I want at a price I can afford doesn't exist.
Ps. Sorry for my continued musing. I'll buy something, eventually.

I think the problem is that you're comparing mass produced tents (TT, HMG, SMD, ZPacks, Hilleburg) to a cottage owned and operated company (MLD). That's why its spenny. If you wanna support Ron and co, drop the cash for the MLD. It'll be worth it in the long run. The price difference is the cost of one or two nights in a hotel. No big deal after you've used the shelter 20 times.

Yeah that's a fair comment, it's actually more the wait time than cost that's the issue. I do already own a duomid, plus their event bivy, and that's what pushes me to get the soloxl as the build quality is another level.
Could do with swapping the duo to a bigger version, bit tight with the four of us (wife, son and dog!) -

You need an ultamid 4 or an MLD Supermid! :) Or a TT Cloudburst.
But yeah, sounds like you definitely need more space.
-
• #2711
Yeah Cloudburst looks amazing but out of stock, the big door opening to watch the stars looks ace.

Tempting but not quite got the cash, especially once getting fucked by customs is included.
Next year. -

Thought I'd go sleep in a tent after all this chat. The duomid is great with dog. Think I'll just get an AliExpress inner and use it for solo too. Then pick up something else in time. The pyramid with its opening doors is a beautiful place to be sheltered.

Are you buying this for a race or for longer term. Maybe that's why you can't decide?
Buy the lightest, fastest one for the race and then sell it off afterwards and then worry about your 'family' tent selection.

• #2719
Long term. Just me being in mountain. I don't race with tent now.
I'll probs try get a tarptent moment dw second hand and try it out, when I can. -

Was nice, don't have temperature but plesant.

Fair.

I just want full security, mountain are unpredictable and I want to know I can ride out a storm without worry. I'll carry 500g extra for that.

I'm Lanshan curious because weight and never ending consumerism.
I see in the reviews though you have to seam seal them, slightly putting me off. Is it straightforward to do?
Also have folk that bought them gone for the 3F version or one of the others...

Pitch it then paint seams from outside. Easy enough. See Six moon designs for a guide.
Consider the six moon designs, lunar solo, it's silpoly not silnylon so doesn't sag when wet. More money though.

Are there others? Lanshan is the name of the product of 3F. This interesting though brief read was linked here a few pages ago: https://www.backpacker.com/gear/chinese-ultralight-backpacking-gear/
I put the altaplex and duomid up in the garden, god the duomid is a palace compared to alta. Also the rectangle shape of it really gives you so much more space. This leads me to conclude the solomid xl would be the best solo shelter for me. Also working as a double shelter for 2 in a pinch. With the duomid as a family.
I can see why you two like a tarptent DR for two. The Durston xmid 1/2 do look nice if backpacking
