MSM Insurance?

Classic policy such as Peter James or the like can cover this. Also there is no such thing as a daytime MOT. If it has lights and switches they get tested, if they aren't there they don't. I think, brake light and a reflector are the minimum requirement?

“No lights fitted at time of test” on my trials MOT, and it’s taxed and insured for road use.

Do it! This drives past near my every couple of days. Cut cam gears make such a lovely sound.

I think you misunderstood what I was saying. I was saying they will test a bike if it does or doesn't have lights but there is no such thing as a daytime MOT.

I don't think he was disagreeing with you
-

Not disagreeing, confirming. You are only half correct though.
" I think, brake light and a reflector are the minimum requirement?"
This part you are not correct. You don't need a brake light, you can have a bike without any lights at all, like my trials biek, which has "no lights fitted at time of test".

Ah fair it just misinterpreted when I read it.
I am sure you used to but yeah it's not a requirement anymore. You used to have to remove all switches as well but I see you can paint over the lenses now so I wonder if that is even still a requirement.

Add an LED headlight below the fairing and you're good for all round surely?
Something like this incredible Africa Twin engined Bros NSR-esque thing a chap in Ireland has built... -

In other news...
I've finally gotten around to doing my test (six months after IBT but after years of procrastination)... full Category A unrestricted and passed first time!
I'm now good to go on any bike my heart desires which I fear may be the beginning of N+1 :)

I'm not an expert but I think a no-lights Mot is useful if your starting point is a purpose-built race bike without a generator or battery. Adding lights is easy but I don't know what you do about the other bits.

My race bike, headlight ‘conversion’ is 2 led strips and a stick on fake headlight. Not that I recommend it but keeps the bizzies away…;)

Standard road fairings are also available
I'd get in contact with seller if you're seriously keen... reads like a road bike that's had its fairings swapped so might not be as extreme as it looks?

If you get this I will be so jealous and will probably buy the next RVF400 that turns up.
The only thing that stopped me was I just couldn't get reasonable insurance in central London, even in a secure car park (but not a garage). Hopefully after a year of bike ownership ticks over there are more options.

If you do get a vfr/rvf gimme a shout and I'll pick the bike to bits and tell you what is wrong ;)
You would be amazed at the things people do to them. Google rick oliver and his upgrades.

One option is TPO with 2 or 3 of the largest lock 'n chains and a good tracker. If it's stolen you have a good chance of it being recovered. Put a cover on it, also locked, so you'll know when it has been scouted by thieves.

Is it a base model 749 Biposto with OEM Xerox plastics? Were the plastics fitted because of a crash?
-
• #23475
Good spot - looks a lot of dough for a base spec 749. Cool bikes, but hold out for an S with the swedish gold and some farkles....
How does one go about insuring something like this?
I'd guess it'd be a small fortune with the extensive modifications and daytime only MOT?
