It's basically soap opera for men, you can only enjoy the actual wrestling if you've invested in the storylines that go with them.
I was massively into it as a kid/teenager during 90's and 2000s attitude/Monday night wars era. Not watched it since then but it's no more baffling than why people watch Eastenders.
