  • That black bag is full of sawdust from the trial of the shop vac without a bag. Filled the vac to the brim twice just prepping those chair pieces that are on the bench.

  • You can also use those buckets to hoover out your wood burner without blocking up the vacuum.

  • No wood burner here, just a hobby (read: means of staying sane) that makes a lot of mess. I also keep "collecting" power tools, seemingly each new one contributing to said mess more than the last. All now either accept the shop vac nozzle in their dust port or I've added a rubberised adaptor to make it work.

What I really want now is an air scrubber.

  • I thought with all the off cuts…
The first bit of kit I bought for my home shop was a dust extractor. If I hadn’t got it first it would have ended up way way down the list.
I am very much enjoying watching you make things, keep it up.

  • all the off cuts…

90% pressure treated pine with what I find myself doing. And thanks!

If I ever rejig the entire place I'd love to have something like that in the corner with hoses run along the ceiling to strategic points and gates to open and close. I was doing fine with just the shop vac for sanding and cutting. Jointing/planing is a whole other level of sawdust making, as I have found out. This also opens up the possibility of turning.....

  • For me it’s if I have to use a router round somebody else’s place. I’m shit a brick! where did all that come from? It’s easy to forget about the chips when you only have to empty the bag at the end of the day.

  • Oooh, yeah, I forgot about the router, sweet!

  • Managed to catch a rare moment where all the Lidl solar lights were working at the same time. Shame mini_com won't see it until it's too cold to play outside.

  • All pieces cut, planed and given round overs. Ready to sand and assemble.

  • Too fucking cute.

  • Decided to try making an air filter/scrubber so picked up a 2nd hand duct fan and some 12" square furnace filters. Plan is to make a box to hold a filter that is easily replaceable, duct that down to the 6" diameter of the fan, mount it on the ceiling and duct it out the back wall of the shed. May be total shite, but seemed like a fun project. Wired it in with some wago like connectors on the plug side (as I cannot find any of the million serviceable plugs I swore I had) just to see if the fan works, and it does.

  • Hah, texted my neighbour to see if he had any spare plugs and he just popped round with his "tin of plugs" for me to chose from. Handy to have someone as equally tinkery living next door.

  • Quick and dirty filter holder made from the pallet that our curtain track got delivered strapped to

  • Mounted. Waiting for some semi rigid ducting and a flap vent cover for the outside.

  • Stupid question, but are you extracting the air?

Neat job BTW. Also would imagine the wood will dampen vibrations.

  • Stupid question, but are you extracting the air?

It will be vented out the back wall once the ducting and vent cover arrive. So the filter is really only there to prolong the life of the fan.

Fan is very smooth. Main noise is air moving, which I'm hoping will be lessened by the duct/vent instead of the wind noise against the back wall.

  • Fin, except maybe tieing the lead up a bit.

  • Made myself an adjustable/tilting foot rest for my office. Offcuts, left over F&B exterior eggshell, teak oil, craft felt and neoprene tape.

  • Oh, smart!
Shift by hand or is there some kind of rotation mechanism?

  • By hand/foot. The curves are set back so the cog is biased towards the front so it wants to sit forward a bit. Moves easily but the neoprene strips help it stay out when there is pressure on top.

  • How did I miss this whole thread.

    So much fun.

  • So much fun

That's all it's intended to be. I don't have any aspirations for anything more serious.

  • How are you finding the vent? My shed is crying out for a dust extractor - I'd been thinking about either building something similar to yours or just buying a filter.
