IMO the whole front of it - the dial, markers, printing, hands, crystal - and the case is all inferior to a GS (or at the very least, no better). The hands and the dial printing in particular. Genuinely. The movement is a different matter of course, but even then you can see how they've designed the plates not to have internal angles, which is a bit cheeky IMO. You'd think even an entry-level PP would have certain standards.

I have become slightly obsessed with this Grand seiko SBGV011. Of course it was a limited edition and does not come up for sale often .
Originally very very spendy for a 9f quartz too

Likewise, a pleasure. It was a good evening.

Very nice. Iissed one at £1.5k a year or so ago and nothing quite as nice came up since apart from that weirdly polished example I posted some pages back.
Happy hunting! -

That's a good price from what I've seen too . I'm keeping an eye out incase one pops up anywhere .
I also quite like the SBGX121 too, but it's another JDM release, so not many examples coming up for sale

Is that an aftermarket bracelet?

No, it's not. Drop between the lugs and the end link does look a bit off in that photo. In others it looks fine though. Good job I prefer it on a strap I guess

The JLC Geophysic true second popped into my head this morning. Like a sudden memory that I really like the look, the background and sizing of the watch. Unfortunately I don't have $20k ('straya bucks) to spare on a fascinating watch with interesting engineering and beautiful build quality.... So is there anything similar under a grand that at least looks the part so I can fool myself?

Some kind of Seiko Cocktail maybe?

The SARX line of "baby GS" type designs is probably more along the right lines.

Ooh yeah, good suggestions. Definitely in the right area. The snowflake dial verges into too "dressy" for me (beautiful though) but the 115 dial pattern is closer. Will investigate more, thanks.
The thing I like about the JLC is the cool and unfussy finish. It's refined but not fancy, if that makes sense.

It is. Annoyingly so... Probably why I put it out of my mind on the first place

Left field answer and top end of the budget but how about a Sinn

It is a very nice watch
Does it have to be a new watch ?
I'd think there would be plenty of older Seikos / omegas that have a similar feel

Mr G Frogman, for the 30th anniversary of Frogman and 40th anniversary of G Shock
I love it, but it's a touch spendy at £5700.
If it was a tenth of the price I'd probably have bought it. I don't have a spare 6k.

Tried this one today and really liked it but I want to try the silver dial as well which seem to be mostly sold out. Also tried on the much talked about Prx 35 and it looked tiny even on my skinny 6.5 inch wrist. They should have gone 37mm instead for sure. I didn't even take a picture of it as it was an instant no for me. The Tudor supprised me I thought it was a bit of a shiny mish mash when it was released but I'm into it now. I was really underwhelmed by the Prx but the guy said they've been so popular and they've even got a waiting list now for the ice blue 40mm auto and they're releasing an ice blue 35 later in the year on the strength of that.

“A touch spendy”
Casio are tripping with some of the MR-G stuff. Six grand. “Oh but it’s zaratsu polished like a Grand Seiko” yeah but it’s still got a fuckin’ two dollar quartz module in it.

IMO Roman numerals always look a bit Saudi. Which is ironic.
Funny isn't it.
I mean it could of come out of a Xmas cracker.
