  • I think thats a much better choice than the commercial grinder the importer was offering. Looking forward to seeing it all setup!

  • agree with all of this. I have some guilt about every purchase I have made of something that was slightly better than I need. You can't take it too far of course but on balance I am glad I did it. A long while ago a girlfriend told me to get the [top of the range cricket bat*] as she said I would not be happy with the next one down. I really liked her for that. But then she dumped me.

  • Make your own humous...change your life ;)

Also I like the ritual of making coffee, from using a moka pot to using a machine. Though as I get older I wonder if I make the coffee better or my taste buds are dead...

  • Put it away somewhere and maybe take a swing at refurbishing it myself in the future.
It would go nice in our soon to be built garden office.

  • Ground finer and tamped harder gave good results even with older beans. Pretty chuffed tbh. Definitely not perfect, and gonna fit a new shower screen, but calling it a success for now.

  • Looking good! Tempted to get a bottomless portafilter myself now...

  • I'm glad I kept trying because the first two shots were very messy!

  • I don't often come on this thread, so this may well have been mentioned previously.

Cycling up Ludgate Hill yesterday, I noticed that Association Coffee - my go to place in the area - has now become an Ozone.

    Bit disappointed with that.

  • If I'm going to use a Moka pot on an electric (infrared) hob, is it best to use a classic one, or the newer induction friendly ones? Not had electric hobs before!

  • I've tried making humous, but never managed to get it better than sabra... Tips?!

  • Good oil, more salt

    More salt

if you were playing golf with a cricket bat, no wonder she left you.

  • You need to skin your chickpeas before blending them... that's why shop bought is always lumpy... I guess Sabra do it the right way.

  • I think I remember reading somewhere that if you use chickpea flour you get super smooth humous.

  • What's the consensus on pre-grinding with a decent grinder vs bringing a hand grinder for a few days away?

    Niche vs Rhino for context

  • I would 100% do hand grinder, unless it’s for several people several times a day. In which case I have got the whole family involved in hand grinding before, but it’s still annoying

  • How many people? Are you driving? If you're driving just pack the Niche you won't regret it. Rhino handgrinder is kind of untenable for more than 1 or 2 cups IMO.

  • Pre-grind before I go.

  • I pre grind as well

  • 4 days, probably only 2 v60s per day for me. Boot space is probably going to be too tight (though packing my Niche into the boot of my MX-5 for a few days away would undoubtedly get a golf club thread entry based on recent events there).

Tried the hand-grinder today there and it does seem to be a fair step down in quality so leaning towards pre-ground at the moment.

    Thanks for the input folks!

  • I pre-grind - 4 days won't make that much difference and waaaay less faff

  • Funny how I feel like grinding coffee outside of home feels prohibitively extravagant but I’ll still take my whole Technivorm machine away when we’re on a self catering holiday.

I recently started taking a hand grinder, stove, kettle, v60 etc out when I go canoeing and I get it again. I used to think that was a bit silly when you can just take a thermos but it does connect you to the just-rest lifestyle.

  • Lightweight Camping = pregrind, everything else = handgrinder. If someone else wants a brew with my kit they're doing their own grinding unless I feel generous.

  • I left the cold brew in for almost 24hrs... anyone in west London know CPR?

(relax, I'm the same idiot banging 2g of pure caffeine before turbo sessions because I can't identify the correct sized scoop)

  • Putting the feelers out, thinking about selling my Sage Bambino Plus & Smart Grinder Pro would - anyone be interested here? Thinking £400 for the pair.

They're both about 2 years old and in very decent condition and the Bambino has been regularly black flushed, descaled + cleaned, and I've only used filtered water with it. Can get some photos & share the full deets if anyone's interested.
