I relaunched a project started 2 years ago about a sub 6.8kg full shimano 105 bike
Some adjustment and finishing to do but here is an idea of the result

Very interested in this. I have some r7000 things I was going to drill and polish for a show bike

Still looking for the perfect frameset for this project. Something a little bit ugky, a little bit light and not very expensive...

Fully bonkers (but awesome)
Maybe an old Giant TCR?

That's fantastic.
I didn't know they did a caad9 cx bike, I've always loved the caad9 road for that curved top tube and this has the same, a very good looking bike.

The sub 6.8 105 project progressed
I found the "perfect" frame and the perfect fork
The bad news is that the steerer was few mm too small but the good news is that Thm use a weird system. The original "expander" (thtat dont expand) is screwd inside the threaded streerer tube
So I took advantage of that to make myself a steerer extension
First the thread
obviously it's not that simple because, as you can see, the hole and thread of the steerer is not centered. The extension part needed to be excentric
I'm a genius or very lucky because the fit is perfect.
Then I shaved down the extra millimeters. you can see the frame and probably the saddle and seatpost
Yes the fork fit is awfull but does it really matter
After I wanted to have the right lever on the frame
And then. Still need some finishing but you have the idea

I love seeing this DIY weightweenism. Keep up the great work!
-
• #242
How will you preload the headset?
-
• #243
I don't have pics but I threaded the extension to be used with a classic cap
-
• #244
Nice, and how do you get any torque on the extension to stop it unthreading?
-
• #245
Since 70% of the stem is on the original steerer and the 30% left is on the extension once torque it is very unlikely to happen
Plus the top bolt of the stem is right ont the transition and will help holding everything together
With no bearing cap it was possible to ride the bike without the extension and 3/4mm of the stem above the steerer but for my peace of mind I prefere this way

wow. kudos on the machining of the eccentric bit. love this project! the levers look so good. what bars are those?
-
• #250
The bar is 3t Ergosum something
Very light
The 105 front hub is in progress with sealed bearing and aluminium axle conversion
