  • I was going to wait until I had more parts. Or at least a better sense of where things might be heading. But I also have questions that need answers. Question number one: What doohick (spacer?) do I need to run downtube shifters on this flat boss?

    It's a pun. Y'know, cos Cannond...

  • Bit of progress. Look at my lovely angles; stem = bar, am I right?

  • Nice stem! Good angles. What’s the brand of stem please?

  • Oh boy, this build's gonna be good.

  • Stem is a Specialized. I bought it originally to get a bit of extra room on my Muddyfox, but sits better here.

Thanks. Fingers crossed I do it justice.

  • Excuse the shonky presentation. Progress. Couple of 2nd hand bargains point the way. Geoff meets Ronnie is the vibe now.

  • Haha I like the tyre mock ups

  • Thanks. Now with added wheels. Progress may be minimal today as Mrs Bob has decreed it necessary for her to have a birthday today. Snazziness palpable.

  • All the toptube cable guides snapped off at the first sign of a cable. What happens next? Electrical tape, zip tie? Metal strap or adhesive cable guide? It's a fair diameter tube- VO etc are too small. Can't find sensible price for flexroute pictured. An M4 bolt almost fits, would running a tap be sensible? And be of any use anyway? Edit. I'm being dim here, obvs it's not going to be thick enough tube for a thread.

  • Rivets

  • the top tube bag is so cool i almost thought it was vintage. need

  • I like the word Rivets, it sounds proper. Presumably I'd have to find a capable Riveteer? Or does one rivet oneself? Rivets okay on curved tube?

Don't remember bag being expensive. Can be purchased in the now.

  • Do you still have the plastic cable guides that snapped off? If so you could find some plastic expanding rivets to clip them back in (that’s what Cannondale originally used). They use them on car’s mostly to hold in interior trim etc. Also if you know anyone who could 3D print there’s a few plans online of the original plastic cable guides (look for Cannondale A113 cable guides).

  • Awesome, thanks. Two of the guides snapped. One was only glued on when I bought the frame. Will investigate A113.

  • You could try “fir tree plugs’ they look like they would hold a tissue, but are pretty tough.

  • Firs might end up being the semi-temporary winner. Closer. Neighbourhood Shakedown.

  • Swapped front tyre, for slightly less mullet. Bottles. General tune up. And pictures. Rides quite nicely, does not like cross chaining at all, brakes honky when wet, may need to concede and get fatter man's elastomer.

  • Lovely to say the least! How tall are you, out of curiosity?

  • Thanks. I'm pretty pleased with it. About 6'7" but when does an adult ever measure themselves? People do insist on guessing/accosting me though, as two flustered later middle aged women recently vied 'Woah, what are you, about 8ft?' 'No wait, what? I think 5ft 7, oh my god, he's 5ft 7!!' 'He's 8ft!!' Both left equally delighted they'd encountered such a creature, however tall it might' ve been.

I'm never quite as tall as their nephews though, damn those lanky nephews.

  • Very desappointed by your height.

    Nice bike tho.

  • People don't seem to understand how rude it is. My brother is 6ft 9 and he gets this shit all the time, you wouldn't go round pointing out how small a short person was would ya 🤦‍♂️

Beautiful bike btw love a dale

  • Yeah, i'm 6'4" and i've grown up around people that constantly asked me why i didn't play basketball. It's always strange when you encounter someone taller, right?

  • One could write a book. Top tip: Grow your hair long, grow your beard long, weigh 11st 8, be 6ft7, maybe wear a flared trousers, enjoy children chasing you round Tesco yelling 'I found the wizard again! He's buying peas!' We digress.
