We’re in Tring, Herts. I guess it comes down to how much time you want to dedicate to it - on this small scale it’s totally doable but as you say, in large gardens they’re mostly getting swapped for yew topiary.
I’ve got quite a regime of feeds and sprays including TopBuxus and Xentari, plus a pheromone indicator trap. Problem is I’ve become the buxus doctor for the whole friggin street because everyone around me is getting theirs stripped bare.
Entering year three of project Buxus, beginning to get the desired mushroom shape, less ball. Another couple of years of avoiding blight, drought and box moth and I reckon I’ll be happy.
Except that the dog will still use the wall as his personal scratching post, must jet wash (again).
