  • Jasmine looks great. I put one on the wall out the front of ours, can only.hope for.similar .

  • Can anyone make use of this stuff?

The community garden thing hasn't worked out but I'm loath to take it to the dump.

I can deliver it within half an hour or so of where I am in East Ham.

  • Are there any alternatives to yellow rattle? I want to suppress/kill my front lawn slowly. I just don’t really like yellow that much in the garden

  • I’ve destroyed at least three hoselock guns/lances as either the plastic goes brittle or the frost splits them. Bit the bullet and bought this Geka 90cm lance having seen Monty using it and haven’t looked back. No plastic bits to break.

  • Entering year three of project Buxus, beginning to get the desired mushroom shape, less ball. Another couple of years of avoiding blight, drought and box moth and I reckon I’ll be happy.
Except that the dog will still use the wall as his personal scratching post, must jet wash (again).

  • Very Little Shop Of Horrors!

Can’t remember if it was you recommending NGS open gardens but having had a browse we’ll be visiting Tom Stuart-Smith’s private garden tomorrow which by all accounts only gets opened once a year. https://ngs.org.uk/tom-stuart-smith-the-barn/

  • Yep, that was me. It's a great scheme and that one looks quite interesting. Might have to pop along as well!

  • Where do you live? The box looks fantastic but I can't help worry for it. Almost no professional gardens seem to be able to keep free of either blight or moth, they're all giving up on box...

  • New rose is in. Patio bed is starting to take shape

  • We’re in Tring, Herts. I guess it comes down to how much time you want to dedicate to it - on this small scale it’s totally doable but as you say, in large gardens they’re mostly getting swapped for yew topiary.
I’ve got quite a regime of feeds and sprays including TopBuxus and Xentari, plus a pheromone indicator trap. Problem is I’ve become the buxus doctor for the whole friggin street because everyone around me is getting theirs stripped bare.

  • £9 in B&Q this morning, thanks for the inspiration

  • Is it possible that the bricks are burning it also?
    What direction are you facing?
Here's mine after a few months in the ground. Still on its way to the fence....

  • ^^^ you're welcome

^^ maybe. It's north facing. But this time of year it does get a lot of sun in the evening.

  • Those fox footprints on the fence?!? 🦊

  • I think it's cats, but it could well be foxes too.

  • visiting Tom Stuart-Smith’s private garden tomorrow

It's actually a group opening with another nearby: https://findagarden.ngs.org.uk/garden/17975/Serge%20Hill%20Gardens

  • Yeah that’s his sister’s house where he was actually born! We’re scheduled for 2pm, shout if you’re going and I’ll try to say hello.

  • On hose chat, i have memories of shitty plastic guns and connections so when I got to own my first ever hose I got this a couple of weeks ago. All metal and no leaks so far. Extendo hose is actually great too, aluminium fittings. The gun is on eBay or Amazon, just search “all metal” or “brass” hose gun.

  • i've had various hoselock guns, the newer ones seem to have even shorter lifespan the ones from years back.

a few weekends ago I was in need of a new watering device as the latest hoselock thing had split, so went over to leyton mills B&Q, to find they just had a jumble of different odds and ends, very limited selection. Went cheap with an own brand metal thing, seemed quite promising at first but it's already leaking like f***.

Think i'm gonna go Geka now.

Edit - Geka , not Gerbera. That's something else...
