  • Can you be smart with your box design and put some kind of slope towards a drainage slot along an inside perimeter? Presumably holding water in this area is the reason they rot. This might be a cheaper and more environmentally friendly option over the plastic coated ply. Do you have a place to park it where it can dry out quickly?

    But yes I've thought about draining holes, but also I'll need to find a way to induce a fall when parking the bike at home. Also considered a small removable panel in the middle of the floor board to access the headset... because why not?

    But even with such measures outdoor board material, especially laminated I would imagine, should be protected, not sure buying the relevant products (paint, etc.) is more eco friendly than factory filmed one? Especially with left over? But yeah, tempted to see how long it goes unprotected / untreated, if I have a good storage regime in place (cover as @young_gun wisely said)
