So, having spent time and effort and money trying to make an early 90s skinny tyre road bike be comfortable, I’ve given up. Instead, I’ve decided to build myself the best traditional touring bike I can.
There’s only one frame I’d want to do this with: the mid-90s last gasp of Raleigh’s UK building that was the Randonneur. The first version was a nice but quite normal 531-framed canti-brake tourer, but they then went all out with the Reynolds 708 version. It reviewed very well at the time and has all sorts of nice details… and I’ve got myself one (badged as a Royal but it’s the same frame)
