Those Xpedo pedals, as well as some Wellgo models and others, use a ball bearing for the inboard side and a DU bushing (i.e. plain bearing) outboard (or vice versa). There's nothing especially wrong with that, they're robust, cheap, and allow for a low stack height without using stupidly tiny rolling elements. The ball bearing handles the small axial load, and the bushing handles the majority of the much larger radial load. The downside is they have much more bearing drag, especially under load.
So what's the difference to the Paedo pedals? Those are cartridge bearings?
