  • 3mm Perspex in whatever colour you want cut to size and silicon in place.

  • It’s not sealed for a reason…maybe. Try pouring water down it, see where it comes out.

(I remember a DIY video explaining that folks often assume enclosures should be sealed more than they were as fitted, and end up creating more problems and curious leaks after ‘fixing’ them with sealant)

  • We've used Dourof's Carpet Warehouse in Rushey Green a few times and they've been excellent for both Carpet and Vinyl.

  • That was my thinking.
If it's on the top, it's probably not that obtrusive.

  • Day 456 in the dust house...

I'm going to be redecorating for years. FWIW a modern style bannister was no harder or more expensive than traditional style.

  • ooo la la curvy plaster

  • But what will your kids slide down?

  • Looks good tho...

I'm thinking about stripping the stain off ours

Yours might make it more modern.

  • Latest addition to the Service Core

  • Nitrous on tap?

  • Serious soda stream

  • Doesn’t do the parp to tell you to stop so the first fizz was a bit extreme 😬

  • Chain that sucker to the wall!

  • Ah i thought it was going to be an actual tap, not a bottle still.

  • Nah, that requires a much bigger device and wouldn’t be chilled.

  • HOLD UP.
Thats actually for a soda stream?!

  • Next level. Suitably impressed. How is it connected? Did you have to make any mods to the Aarke.

  • No mods, just this hose. It’s a bit of a minefield trying to get the right combo of connectors but this one works for Arke (and probably soda stream) and co2 from my welding gas supplier - London Gases

  • Blackout blinds with Cassette & Side Tracks

Anyone done this? Any advice? Brands, issues, limitations, considerations, etc.?

Kids are getting up too early.

  • I like that.

Plans to do the same for the spindles beneath?

  • These - we just got regular rollers with blackout fabric because - money - but they are decent and with design award etc. so I imagine the full job is pretty good.

  • Cheers.

    Charlie DIY has a video

    ... with a link to these https://www.electricblindcompany.com/copy-2-of-fabrics-3-2/ex-lite-white
    (-20% using "Charliediy")

Quote calculator using guesstimates says it'll be ~£350 a set.

A lot more than we spend on our curtains normally, but I feel it would be worth it, given our 4.5yo seems to be staying up till 9pm at the moment.... and with the early starts I'm dreading the possibility of all the tiredness being saved up for a weekend implosion.

  • ikea blackout blinds (electric or otherwise) are cheaper than elsewhere and good - you might be able to add side channels to stop leaking light around the edges

  • That's a good shout.

We've also got quite a bit of spare scotia(?) beading and low skirting left over from the builders doing our floor.

I guess the appeal of these is that they are properly dark (see somewhere around 8m in the video)

Edit - looks like you can just buy u channels which could probably be glued to the wall

  • Cheers! We considered underneath too but have gone for a kinda old and new meeting.
Our house is skewed too so it wouldn’t have lined up.
