  • Congrats on the life decisions! Excited to follow this

  • Congratulations! Got an accountant yet for that all important "tax optimisation"?!
I am still trying to wrap my head around using a 3D printer for what you are describing. You can hack it so it can do "negative" engravings instead of "positive" prints? Care to elaborate? Or is that content for one of the upcoming YouTube videos?

Similar to this process but instead of copying something that exists I will be making a template in cad and then 3d printing it. And yes I am hoping to do it as yt video.

  • What kind of travel can you get in the z-direction on a pantograph? Splines are very hard, especially tapered ones. The tolerances needed to get them to work well without overloading one spline or locking together for all eternity is quite a challenge. I look forward to seeing your approach!

  • I haven't thought things through yet but these cranks have a spline that doesn't taper and they seem to work with two pinch bolts so I am thinking about doing something similar but maybe more chunky and simpler to make.
Not expecting this to be a business venture mind! I would need to get a CNC lather to make it profitable

  • So would you do the spindle on the mill with a dividing head and the crank on the panto? Super cool idea!

  • yes something like that. but first some testing

  • People have been demanding segmented forks with angled crowns and as I didn't have the machine capacity to fabricate those I have been forced to make something work on the lathe.
It's not quite there yet and it will only do straight legs with zero offset/angle. But I have something planned for angled legs as well.

  • I hope I wasn’t the only one asking for this feature 😬

  • Nope made sense to do it for Maj as well and now my AWOL is also getting some. It is totally worth my time getting this set up

  • Video edit of our overnighter a couple of weeks ago:

  • Oh wow - what a beautiful place - trip - bike - vid. I need to do something like this with mine. That mini frame bag is just the best !

  • Excited for this

  • More silly shit. Should come in handy for mitrering unicrown and segmented crown with angled legs. I cut these parts years ago when I had access to a dope water jet cutter. Didn't have a reason to weld them together until now.

  • Glad to hear about Hulsroy Inc and all the awesome jigs.

When funds allow I'll get in line for a Rinko-rando-cycloturiste!

  • ah yes, every framebuilders favourite tool, the labotomy machine!

  • Really excited for Hulsroy Indy Fab Inc. and Sons Daughter. All the best for that endeavour!
Where can I get in line for one of those segmented forks?
I am also interested in one of those weight gain stainless steel SWorks stems.

  • Send me a pm or email. Thinking about making a batch for forks actually. Will use Majs and my own to guage time/price.

Stems are not stainless I am afraid but. It will be treated with linseed oil.

  • Ha. Dope waterjet cutter seems apt. Beautiful thing.
    Don't drop this, please.

  • @SoYaap!

    Quick mockup with your forks.

    I am excited

  • Not gonna get any further today bohoo. As you can see I am reusing @SoYaap! 's old forks but making the segmented forks with more clearance while keeping A-C or maybe even shortening them a bit. We will see.
Fork legs are tapered and ovalised which initially made this project impossible but then I realised that o can just ovalise the new segments so they fit. I am quite pleased about this although it is time consuming and would probably have been smarter to just build new forks.

    Weekend here I come
