  • I had a couple of panic-based dad loops in prep for Wander Wye :(

I believe @c*j*f might have been up to something

  • I did the Trans Scotland Trial weekend past last.

It took me three days, fast guys did it in 24 hours..

Some of the distances covered in one hit on this thread are mind blowing. Fair play.

  • I completed my fixed SR this weekend. The rides completed were The White Hart 200, Green and Yellow Fields 300, Fenland Friends 600 and Asparagus and Strawberries 400. Overall, I really enjoyed myself and did the rides with friends rather than on my own, like last year. I prefer riding fixed on the road now but it is definitely harder on the contact points at these distances as it is more difficult to relieve pressure as no freewheeling and standing for a stretch. All the same, I'm very pleased to have finished. I'll do a few 200s this year and aim to get my ACME SR badge in September.

I'm thinking about offering help to the fixed wheel organiser to do a bit of a re-vamp for the fixed awards or at least a bit more promotion.

Side note: my handle was Klar and I changed it :)

  • Well done!

What is the ACME SR badge for?

All going well, I hope to complete my Hyper Fixed Wheeler over the next couple of weekends. And I’d love to give Shaun a run for his money on the FWC but he seems to be on another level :)

  • Finished the Pendle 600k with 5min to spare.

  • Whoa. Is that from faff, difficulty, or both?

  • Who is the absolute bossman doing the Pendle in a bucket hat and checked shirt?

  • #hippyisfat

But also Peter and I rode it together so that added some extra faff. ~32h moving for ~40h finish time.

I'd not slept well leading up to it and drove up early Fri morning so was pretty caned but then also couldn't get any sleep during a 20min powernap at a campsite or a 45min lay down at the sleep control in Langwathby so was pretty miserable for a period of time. Pete wasn't loving the heat (saw 33C on the Garmin, wtf). I was having to make extra toilet stops. We were stopped by police dealing with an RTA. Lots of little things combined with a very hilly route to make for a stressful finish (for me at least, Pete is super chill)

  • Imagine if you took a human and squeezed out all the "calm" - what remains is me and what you've created is him.

  • The acme sr is for riding acme organised rides (200, 300, 400 and 600) in one season.

My 200 was an audax club Hackney event so I’ve got one to add so I’ll be doing the essex r&r in September.

  • @Thrasher I have sent you a PM (not related to Bucket Hat Bossman)

  • I’d love to give Shaun a run for his money on the FWC but he seems to be on another level :)

This raises another thing I’d love to change. The points for all of the other competitions are tallied up all year and you can see how people are getting on on the website. For the fwc it is a surprise at some point well after the season has finished. Shaun is another level but wouldn’t it be fun to see the points all year?

  • Yeah, it’s one thing that’s a bit annoying as it makes it hard to “compete” against others when you have no idea how they’re getting on.

I guess you can always spy on Strava and their individual results page. Not that you’d catching me doing that once or twice a day… 😅

  • You should have stopped for another pint.

  • Where's there's one, there's two.

Bier House in Burnley before the start...

  • I would never have made it out of this pub for an audax.

  • Maybe I didn't. Maybe I'm still there and I imagined the ride...

  • Sweet, that might be enough to get me on the Pendle.

I was on Asparagus and Strawberries, which was my longest ride since the last PBP, feel like I'm getting some proper fitness and power back, it has been a slow burn this year after doing little of nothing the since moving out of London two years ago, spending all my time commuting.

I run hot, so Saturday during the day was fun, loved the night section and temperature drop despite being essentially toast after the heat in the day.

It was the third qualifier for PBP in the bag, and my mates longest ever ride, just a 600 in a couple of weeks and then PBP again.

  • There was a Scottish guy that rolled in just behind us using Pendle as his qualifier!

  • I prefer riding fixed on the road now but it is definitely harder on the contact points at these distances as it is more difficult to relieve pressure as no freewheeling and standing for a stretch.

You need some hills. The only contact point problems I've had on fixed have been on the flatter Audaxes.

  • Yes, I really felt it on Fenland Friends. No issues on The White Hart. I needed to build though (or at least I thought I did). 360 miles of constant hills with no way of resting might be a bit much for a first fixed attempt.

BCM is on my list for next year despite telling everyone who was in earshot that A&S was my last ever audax so goodbye.

  • Great pics! I snapped the same abbey on APN a few weeks back. In fact, I'm not sure I've ever ridden in Yorkshire without somehow passing it.

That little section between Rosedale Abbey and Whitby is a mother, huh.

  • Chapeau. Moved to Cumbria last week... Just realised the Pendle comes past our house! Annoyingly we were back down south at the weekend but could've left u some beers on the verge ;) Next year!

Entered it back in 2015 but never made the start due to

  • That's the one. Pretty impressive ruin as it reveals itself slowing as you round the corner.
