Lightweight tent recommendations?

Yeah I think big touring I'd want freestanding. Tough choice, many good tents really.

The Portal 2 would be such a good tent if it didn't have a tapered floor. Which is ultimately why I went for a Double Rainbow. So dumb that if two people with 25" wide pads want to share a tent they have to buy a Portal 3. Portal's do look good though. I like that they're very lightweight but supposedly very weather resistant. The sub 50" floor needs to die in a hole for 2p tents.

For sure, we have the 3 man BA and it’s great for living in but finding a spot to pitch can be tough - easy to forget how massive the footprint is. 2.5 man would be bang on.

yeah, was much the same with a 4p 'mid which is partially why I binned it. If the vestibules aren't out, which they never realllyyy to be where I am, its small, but still fits two wide pads.

Actually, having filled the upper with water a few points and put pressure, there are a number of pinholes. Damn

I think I'll hang it in the garden and get my wife to help me mark holes once it's filled with water.

I don't like Pyramid tents generally.
The gently sloping walls make interior space and headroom cramped.
They are, however, rather storm-proof for their weight.

For those reasons I bought a Tarptent Double Rainbow.
It's often seen for sale secondhand around £200, that price is right IMO.
It's very livable, I LOVE the two doors, so no climbing over your partner in the night.

Yeah, I seem to really like pyramids and their simplicity. The interior has never bothered me. That TT is heavier and more work to set up, but I'm sure nice.

looking at lightweight 2 person tents, ideally one that would fit in a full frame bag when bikepacking. I am less precious about space and weight when touring with panniers because the rack can take anything really on the top bit. I am 6ft4 so needs to be long.

Someone local to me is selling a Vaude terrahogan 2p for around 150 second hand - that seems decent - 1.8kg, long enough, big enough for 1 person. Doesn't look to have a separate inner and outer though.

Good buy?

I think I'm going to buy a six moons lunar solo, Seems to tick my boxes.

JB and platypus are advocating the tarptent double rainbow. Nice big openings and lighter. But perhaps a bite more than your suggested.

Not seam sealed. Heavier than what you're used to. Lots of stakes required. But solid tent with a solid pitch once pitched correctly.

I cant really see an alternative for me, and I need to give up dyneema. And I'm scared of bugs and snakes, so need a inner tent. Had a asp viper in the garden yesterday!

Yeah, just about your only mid option that I'm aware that is reasonably priced, outside of it's clone, the Lanshan/Lanshan Pro.

Yeah. I can see it for 270 EUR which seems reasonable.

No, there's only German and Danish stockists. Unless you can get one in the UK used, I think there are probably better tents for you - like something from Terra Nova. I paid $370 brand new inclusive of the carbon arch pole and all taxes. Its close to $600 from the European sellers.

I’m 183 cm and thought the Lunar Solo was a tad too short for me in spring/fall bag (Alpkit Skyehigh 700) on Exped Ultra 5. Bag was wet from condensation both head and feet.
Perfect tent if you’re shorter, packs down tiny 👍

Edit: If they made a longer XL version I’d buy it in a heartbeat

Backpacking light.dk says it's okay for upto 190 cm. I'll order one and see. Actually now off bikepacking next week so not time to get before that annoyingly.

It's also annoying the wait time on a MLD is so long, or I'd order one and get someone to bring it over.

I have a SMD Deschutes Tarp. Sleep under it all the time with a Tyvek groundsheet.
It's just about possible to sleep without touching either end, but it's a real challenge. I'm 6ft nothing.
It packs down nice light and small, but after a few days I start to dream of something different.

Different as in more length?
