Ok I've managed to answer my own question - The chainset is likely 8 speed Avanti, requiring a 111mm ISO bottom bracket.
Frustratingly, it's a French threaded BB shell so I'm just going to have to get a 110mm JIS threadless BB (i.e. YST) and just figure it out.
if I remember correctly, an ISO crank on a JIS BB will sit further out. I think the chainline difference is something like 2mm?
Yeah you're right. And there's a few different estimates online for how many mm difference it makes ~ 1-4mm outboard offset per crank.
