If you are going custom I would recommend a hub dynamo. It totally goes against the idea of saving weight but it’s a great way to sink in more money. It doesn’t stop at the actual hub. Think about all the bouji lights you can pick from.

i could save 20g in spokes! but you're right, there is no rims to choose from and it makes used ubs harder
thank you for suggestions, the vapour is still the lightest at 415g, it is a bit narrower and uglier tho
@Oddo it will not have dyno's sadly, it's specifically for riding between the BST months
homer might get one....one day

What about a carbon fork? I only suggest this as I must admit the guiding principles for the build for this bike are a bit hazy so feel comfortable doing so, and if you want to save a shitload of weight would absolutely help. Could find one that works and then since you have Hulsroy on speeddial (little Boomer joke there for you) he could tweak the geo to suit. Maddess right? But the Marge concept doesn't seem to have instinctive boundaries

Vapour is only 21mm internal…
…but I’m running 2.8” wide 26” Rangers on 23mm rims and it’s fine, so whatevs tbh.

Just bought a wheel set with those Dartmoor tomcat rims and they seem quite nice.
Modern rounded profile helps to hide you're on 26...
Will report once they arrive.
Also thanks for the billy bonkers recommendation everyone, new bike for partner needs a bit of profile and they look ok. -

@Maj buy some nice rims!
At least I think that's the gist of it.
@launchpadboi back to you, I've done my deputising duties.

36 holes, useless hubs, but the rhyno lite look like rims looked back when I was young.

Unwanted 26" xc wheelsets on eBay is the real thing. Stan's Crests are like 350g per rim
100% custom.
Why 28-hole? You’d be limiting the already slim 26” pickings even further…
How wide you thinking, and which kinda tyre size you looking at?
The obvious choices are Velocity Dually (v chodeish & heavy) / Cliffhanger, Dartmoor Tomcat (cheap & cheerful), Stan’s MK4 Arch/Crest (best width:weight ratios but spenny).
Or full Light Bicycle Recon crabon if you feel to scratch that itch…
