it scared me shitless
I was 13 when it came out and remember kids crying and running up the corridors away from the screen. There was definitely popcorn throwing to add to the drama and i may have thought to myself "watch an honest hardworking man slowly slip down the stern of a ship into a sharks mouth and then give me a call".
First film I ever saw at the cinema, I must've been 8 or maybe 9, some little 2 screen place in the middle of nowhere in Cornwall or Devon or South Wales, my younger brother and sister watched Bambi and I saw Jurassic Park with my dad, it scared me shitless but was also so fucking cool, I was a bit of a dinosaur nerd before that and definitely moreso afterwards. Now I think Bambi is probably scarier, but Jurassic Park is an absolute classic.
